Finish what you start! I ran in the MSUFCU Freep Marathon - 5K Race this morning. Looking back at where I started in January, I can’t believe how far I’ve come. Progress is small but still there.

Hit one of my goals for the year! TY “5k On The Run Way”. By far the flattest run of the year, you gave me my fastest mile pace at 9:43. I celebrate this milestone for many reasons but mainly because of the planning and work it took to hit it. We still have much room to go but this speaks to my theme for this time of the year which is planning. Out side of the interesting pumpkin spice season, Fall/ Autumn. We got the Halloween and all the holidays staring us in the face. Join me in attacking it so it does attack us. I hear you Mariah but Christmas is too far away still but secretly not really.

Try again!

That’s what they sang in exaltation. “Try again!” That’s what they said to me after a hard-fought battle.

Close to a year ago, I came up short in a big race. My opponents posted videos of their celebration. The weird part was, in their taunting, they sang, “Try again!”

My response: Bet.

No, this isn’t any official declaration. Just a shoutout to anyone who never quits, never gives up, and learns from each and every battle.

I ran my first 10K today. It was challenging, but I was ready.

In life, you will not win every battle. But as long as you can, whenever you can, ALWAYS try again.

The best retirement book I’ve read this year isn’t about retirement. 📚
I’m starting a new series: Book of the Month. Each month, we pick one book, go through it together, and at the end of the month I break down what it means for your money.
October’s pick: Atomic Habits by James Clear
The ground rules:
📖 Read it, or 🎧 listen to it (audiobook counts, that’s how I’m doing it)
📅 Come back at the end of October for my takeaways and how they apply to retirement planning
Save this post as your reminder, share it with someone who should read along, and follow so you don’t miss the breakdown. 📌

Seasonal depression is real and no joking matter. Everyone talks about the winter blues. Nobody talks about the financial fog that comes with it. 🌫️
The days get shorter, motivation gets harder and that’s exactly when money stuff quietly slips.

Here’s how to clear it before 2026 ends:

✅ Review, don’t resolve — look at where your money actually went this year (not what you planned)

✅ Use it or lose it — contribution limits, FSA dollars, open enrollment... some deadlines don’t wait for January 1st

✅ Set ONE goal for next year — specific, real, decided now — so January isn’t a blank page
Don’t let the fog win.
Let’s talk 👇 (link in bio)

What you do consistently always wins out. Very proud of this race. Today’s 5k had a few victories. I had another PR, thanks to being slow. I had my fastest 1 mile pace all year. Also, my wife forced me to get an XL shirt and it wasn’t too small. For anyone that knows me, you know that’s a VERY big win. 🏆

I love doing these runs with family and friends. While we never run together, we do start together and root for each other at the finish line. I was happy to be joined by my sister and my middle. The middle did it with minimal complaints. She had a good attitude and most importantly wanted to do it with me, which made this papa bear very happy.

Yes, I remember where I was 25 years ago.

I was in college, a much younger version of myself, when I woke up that morning to a world that suddenly felt different. Until that moment, I don’t think I could have imagined something so horrific happening here at home.

As a student leader at the university, I was called upon, along with other student leaders, to manage my own emotions while trying to help address and comfort a student body that was hurting, confused, angry, and afraid.

The truth is, none of us really knew what to say.

We were all trying to process the unimaginable while beginning to understand that things would never quite be the same.

But one thing I will always remember about the days that followed was the unity.

In the midst of tremendous grief, we came together. We checked on one another. We supported strangers. We honored those who ran toward danger to save others. For a moment, we were reminded that despite our differences, we were one nation and one people.

Twenty-five years later, that part of September 11 still stays with me.

Today, I remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders and ordinary people who demonstrated extraordinary courage, the families whose lives changed forever, and all those who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

But I also remember what that moment taught me: our actions matter. How we treat one another matters. Kindness matters. Community matters. And unity should not require tragedy.

May we never forget those we lost.

May we never forget those who served and sacrificed.

And may we never forget how much stronger we are when we choose to stand together.

I’ll never forget. 🇺🇸
