Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce
April 26 Business of the Month
MCON Underground
By Melanie Davis
Some of the most important work in any community is never seen.
It happens before the first shovel of dirt is turned, before concrete is poured, and long before a building opens its doors. It is the kind of work people rely on every day without ever thinking about it—until something goes wrong.
That is the work done by MCON Underground, the Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month.
Owned by Tyler and Lindsey Miller, MCON Underground is a family-operated business built on generations of experience in the construction industry. Tyler Miller’s grandfather, Ed Miller, began operating heavy equipment in the early 1950s, and his father, Jim Miller, went on to establish Miller Construction Company in 1972. Continuing that legacy, MCON Underground was founded in 2006 and has steadily expanded its reach ever since.
Today, the company specializes in underground and site-related work, including water and sewer line installation, storm sewer systems, earthwork, site utilities, directional drilling, and both commercial and private contracting.
It is detailed, technical work with little room for error. Much of what MCON does will never be visible once a project is complete, but it is essential to everything that comes after.
Without properly installed water systems, buildings cannot function. Without sewer infrastructure, communities cannot operate safely. Before any structure rises, the ground must be prepared, utilities placed, and systems put in motion beneath the surface.
MCON provides that foundation.
Over the years, the company has taken on projects across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. Even with that broad reach, its home base has remained in Wathena, where the business continues to reflect the values of steady work and long-standing commitment.
Infrastructure may go unnoticed when it is done right, but its impact is constant. The work performed by MCON Underground supports homes, businesses, and entire communities—quietly, reliably, and every single day.
