Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month,
Glacial Hill Venues
By Melanie Davis

Glacial Hills Venues has become a place where celebrations of all kinds come to life, but for owner Cathy Echterling, the journey began with something much simpler: helping others create meaningful moments. After working with numerous weddings and parties, she discovered a natural ability to bring events together in a way that felt both personal and memorable. That experience led to a bigger vision, creating a space where people could celebrate life’s most important moments without the financial strain that often comes with event planning.
Since taking ownership in 2021, Echterling has shaped the venue around flexibility, creativity, and accessibility. “As a long-term REALTOR, I prioritize flexibility and helping others achieve their dreams,” she said. “My background has taught me that ‘nothing is impossible’, and I apply that philosophy by allowing couples to be creative and transform the venue into their own unique partyscapes.”
Alongside Cathy is her husband, Kevin, who brings a background in military service and education and now oversees lawn care and maintenance, keeping the property polished and event-ready. “We love to host our local military through holiday parties, retirement, and promotion parties,” she said.
The Echterlings have welcomed a variety of events—from proms and showers to reunions, weddings, quinceañeras, and celebrations of life—each one adding another chapter to the story of the space. They enjoy seeing the wide range of décor that transforms the venue with every gathering, but even more meaningful is the joy shared among the families and friends who fill it. Watching a young couple’s vision come to life on their wedding day is one of their most rewarding moments.
While many may associate Glacial Hills Venues primarily with weddings, Cathy emphasizes that its role in the community extends far beyond that. The venue regularly hosts gatherings that bring people together, including vendor markets and bridal shows. One standout offering is the “Bridal Swap-n-Shop,” which connects past and future brides, giving them the opportunity to share and purchase décor at affordable prices. It’s yet another way the venue stays true to its mission of making meaningful celebrations accessible while strengthening community connections. With a focus on affordability, creativity, and community, Glacial Hills Venues continues to grow as more than just an event space—it has become a place where milestones are honored, memories are made, and people come together to celebrate what matters most.

April 26 Business of the Month
MCON Underground
By Melanie Davis

Some of the most important work in any community is never seen.
It happens before the first shovel of dirt is turned, before concrete is poured, and long before a building opens its doors. It is the kind of work people rely on every day without ever thinking about it—until something goes wrong.
That is the work done by MCON Underground, the Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month.
Owned by Tyler and Lindsey Miller, MCON Underground is a family-operated business built on generations of experience in the construction industry. Tyler Miller’s grandfather, Ed Miller, began operating heavy equipment in the early 1950s, and his father, Jim Miller, went on to establish Miller Construction Company in 1972. Continuing that legacy, MCON Underground was founded in 2006 and has steadily expanded its reach ever since.
Today, the company specializes in underground and site-related work, including water and sewer line installation, storm sewer systems, earthwork, site utilities, directional drilling, and both commercial and private contracting.
It is detailed, technical work with little room for error. Much of what MCON does will never be visible once a project is complete, but it is essential to everything that comes after.
Without properly installed water systems, buildings cannot function. Without sewer infrastructure, communities cannot operate safely. Before any structure rises, the ground must be prepared, utilities placed, and systems put in motion beneath the surface.
MCON provides that foundation.
Over the years, the company has taken on projects across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. Even with that broad reach, its home base has remained in Wathena, where the business continues to reflect the values of steady work and long-standing commitment.
Infrastructure may go unnoticed when it is done right, but its impact is constant. The work performed by MCON Underground supports homes, businesses, and entire communities—quietly, reliably, and every single day.
