Do you know what eczema is?

Eczema is a common skin condition that can cause dry, itchy and bumpy skin. It can affect people of all ages, and symptoms may come and go during periods called “flare-ups.” Certain allergens and irritants can sometimes trigger or worsen symptoms.

While there’s no cure for eczema, there are ways to help treat and manage symptoms. Talk with your health care provider if you often experience dry, itchy or irritated skin.

In many Hispanic families, loved ones can play an important role in supporting parents and babies during the postpartum period.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and other trusted family members may help with meals, household tasks, caring for the baby or simply giving new parents time to rest and recover.

Your birth care team can help you plan for the support that works best for you and your family as you welcome your new addition.

Cervical cancer screening is an important part of preventive care. Pap tests and HPV tests can help find changes that may lead to cervical cancer before they become cancer or help detect cancer early.

Talk with your health care provider about which screening test is right for you and how often you may need it.

Food can be an important part of postpartum traditions and recovery. Across Hispanic cultures, comforting dishes such as arroz con pollo, caldo de res and atole may be enjoyed as new mothers rest, recover and spend time with their babies.

After giving birth, a balanced diet with a variety of nutrient-rich foods can help support recovery and overall well-being. Talk with your health care provider about your nutritional needs and how favorite cultural foods can be part of a balanced postpartum diet.

In some Hispanic cultures, the postpartum period known as “La Cuarentena” is a special time for rest, recovery and bonding.

Traditionally lasting about 40 days after childbirth, La Cuarentena encourages new mothers to focus on healing and caring for their babies, often with support from family and loved ones.

Every family may observe this tradition differently, but the importance of giving new mothers time, care and support is something we can all celebrate.

Ovarian cancer may not cause noticeable symptoms, especially in its early stages. That’s why it’s important to know the signs and pay attention to changes in your body.

Possible symptoms may include:

• Pelvic or back pain
• Feeling full quickly when eating
• Changes in bowel habits or needing to urinate more often
• Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

You know your body best. Talk to your doctor if you notice changes that are unusual for you or don’t go away.
