Would you rather get $10,000 off the price of a home or $10,000 toward your closing costs?

Most buyers immediately say they want the lower price.

But that isn't always the better deal.

A $10,000 reduction in purchase price may only make a relatively small difference in your monthly payment. That same $10,000 as a seller concession could potentially cover a large portion of your closing costs, preserve cash in your bank account, or even be used toward buying down your interest rate.

Every situation is different, but this is why I always like to run the numbers before an offer is written.

Sometimes the best negotiation isn't about getting the lowest purchase price. It's about figuring out where those dollars have the biggest impact for the buyer.
