Today is National Child Labor Day, a day that recognizes the movement to end child labor and create protections for children in the workforce—unless, of course, you’re a farm kid!

So today, we’re turning that history into a positive and giving a huge shout-out to all the farm kids out there doing the jobs their friends wouldn’t even know where to start.

From morning chores before school, to feeding animals in the rain, to missing events because a fence needs fixing in the back pasture, farm kids show up and get it done. They learn responsibility, work ethic, problem-solving, time management, and the value of hard work long before most adults do.

It may not always seem like it now, but the skills you’re learning every day will take you far in life—whether you stay in agriculture or choose a different path.

So here’s to the farm kids: the gate-fixers, hay-stackers, calf-feeders, tractor riders, vegetable pickers, and chore-doers. Agriculture’s future is in good hands because of you.

Keep up the great work. We see you, and we’re proud of you.

📸 Drop a photo of your farm kid in the comments! Let’s celebrate these hard-working kids who are out there kicking butt and taking names every day.

The requested disaster declaration regarding Freeze from April 19, 2026, through April 22, 2026, has been approved by USDA.

All 21 counties in New Jersey, seventeen (17) primary and four (4) contiguous, are covered by this designation.

A Secretarial Disaster Designation makes farm operators in primary and contiguous counties eligible to be considered for FSA emergency loans and disaster set aside, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers in all counties have until February 8, 2027, to apply for emergency loan assistance. The attached Emergency Loan Fact Sheet provides further information on how producers may apply for this assistance with local FSA Offices.

Please share this information with your ag communities to assist in reaching the impacted farms.

Members of the Women’s Leadership Committee traveled to Arlington, Virginia this week to attend the AFBF WLC  ACE SUMMIT during the International Year of the Woman Farmer. Danielle Weinwright, Darcy Perehinys, Tracy Smith, Ashley DeBow, and Anna Trapani spent three days connecting with more than 500 women from all 50 states, as well as participants from countries including Ireland, Germany, Sweden, and several nations throughout Africa. Attendees included farmers, agricultural advocates, educators, and industry professionals from around the world.

The summit featured panel discussions on food security, along with breakout sessions focused on managing life stress, marketing, telling your story, leadership development, and becoming a trusted voice for agriculture. The event provided an opportunity to learn, network, and exchange ideas on the challenges and opportunities facing women in agriculture globally.

Attendees also received the results of the national Women in Ag Survey, which was conducted over the past year. The survey provides valuable insight into the opportunities, challenges, and priorities facing women in agriculture today. Results can be found on the  American Farm Bureau Federation website.

The Women’s Leadership Committee looks forward to sharing what was learned and continuing to advocate for and support women in agriculture throughout New Jersey.

Happy Saturday!

It’s that time of year again when everything seems to happen all at once. Planting, pruning, irrigating, breakdowns, realizing you forgot to order something three weeks ago, more money going out than coming in, and an endless morning list you hope to finish by noon so you can start the endless afternoon list you hope to finish by supper.

And if you even have time to cook supper.

(Thank God for cereal and frozen pizza, am I right?)

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. This season has a way of making even the strongest among us feel like we’re running on fumes. But remember to stop for a minute, take a breath, step outside, and look at what you’ve already accomplished.

Because while your to-do list may be winning, you’re still showing up every day.

And when it feels like the weather, the weeds, the equipment, the bills, and the calendar are all coming at you at once, remind yourself:

You are the storm.

You are stronger than the chaos, stronger than the setbacks, stronger than that list that somehow gets longer every time you cross something off.

It’s the end of the month — have you checked your New Jersey Farm Bureau membership to make sure it hasn’t expired?

To keep NJFB going strong and fighting for us, we need to keep those memberships chugging along.

Check your expiration date today. And if you’re not a member… why not?

Membership helps keep you in the know with weekly newsletters, action alerts when our voices need to be heard, and discounts on Ford, Grainger, LifeLine Screening, Budget Rental, and more.

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

As farmers, we understand sacrifice, hard work, and dedication to something bigger than ourselves. Memorial Day is more than cookouts and the unofficial start of summer — it’s about remembering those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.

From our farm families to yours, we thank the heroes who never made it home and the families who carry their legacy every single day. 🇺🇸

Take a moment today to pause, reflect, and remember.

❤️🤍💙

🐝 Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

Today we celebrate one of the hardest workers in agriculture… the honey bee!

Bees are responsible for pollinating so many of the crops we rely on every single day — fruits, vegetables, flowers, nuts and so much more. Without bees, our farms, gardens and food supply would look VERY different. From Jersey tomatoes to blueberries, pumpkins to cucumbers, these tiny pollinators play a massive role in keeping agriculture thriving.

Farmers and beekeepers work hand in hand to protect pollinators and create healthy environments for them to do what they do best. So next time you enjoy fresh local produce, thank a bee too! 🍯🌻🐝

The NJFB Women’s Leadership Committee wants to give a special shout out to all of our local honey producers and beekeepers helping keep New Jersey buzzing!

👇 Drop your honey company name, county and info below so we can help support local beekeepers! 🍯

Strawberry picking season is ON like Donkey Kong!! 🍓🐒

Yes, some berries got hurt in the frost, and our hearts hurt for those farmers too. Farming is never easy and Mother Nature sure likes to keep us all on our toes. But here’s the good news — there are still many farms that made it through, and some that lost part of their crop but not everything.

So don’t assume there are no strawberries this year! Call ahead, check your local farm pages, and go show them some support. Every quart bought, every wagon ride, every family picking berries helps keep these local farms going.

Support local. Support Jersey farms. And go make some sweet memories while strawberry season is here! ❤️

If your farm has berries, drop below so you can be found!
