Silver Lake Bank Loan Officer Scott Hughes recently visited Brian McFall’s Personal Finance classes at Washburn Rural High School giving students a firsthand look at banking, credit and responsible money management.
Drawing on more than 20 years of banking experience, Scott discussed topics students will encounter throughout their financial lives, including checking and savings accounts, CDs, credit scores, fraud prevention and the lending process. He also introduced the 5 C’s of Credit — Character, Capacity, Collateral, Conditions and Capital — and explained how lenders evaluate a borrower’s ability to manage debt responsibly.
Students also learned about the wide range of career opportunities available in banking, from customer service and lending to credit analysis, accounting and technology.
