What is the Russian Piano Method?

The Russian Piano Method is a holistic method of teaching and playing piano that emphasizes the natural, weighted use of the whole arm and upper body in piano playing. Weighted playing enables students to produce both a beautiful, resonate “singing” tone and a powerful orchestral sound. It focuses on the quality of the sound being produced and creates powerful, dynamic musicians who are capable of deep, meaningful, expressive playing. The Russian School of Piano Playing incorporates all of the many elements required to produce well-rounded, equipped musicians. Students learn to play without tension, and to play with relaxed, natural movements which leads to freedom, flexibility, stability, and comfort in playing. The Russian Method stives for deeper musical understanding and nurtures the necessary skills and techniques required for students to have long-term success on their piano journey.

What is Music?

Some say that music is an art, others say it’s a science. It is not only an art, and a science, but a complex language. It gives us the ability to communicate things that cannot be put into words. It has the power to lull a baby to sleep or to inspire men to war. Music is like a door that opens us up to generations of the most profound and precious treasures, stories, and ideas that have moved the souls of all who have encountered them. To learn the art of playing piano and all its intricacies and subtleties, is to gain another voice, to learn how to speak all over again. It enables a person to give meaning, life, and shape to sound. It allows us to create, and to express what might otherwise be lost. And so, to walk upon the path of music is to lead a life enriched by legacy, to preserve it, and to be part of it.
