Back-to-school season is here, and it’s a great time to remind students how to stay safe on their way to and from school. Our team at Phillipps Insurance Group Inc cares about keeping families in our local communities safe, no matter how kids travel.
Walking to school?
• Stick to sidewalks when available
• Cross only at marked crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the street
• Walk with a group when possible
Riding a bike?
• Make sure helmets fit properly
• Ride on the right side of the road with traffic
• Stop completely before crossing
• Choose routes with lighter traffic and fewer intersections
Taking the bus?
• Stand at least 6 feet from the curb while waiting
• Wait for the bus to stop fully before boarding
• Never walk behind or in front of a bus without ensuring the driver sees you
Getting dropped off?
• Follow school zone speed limits
• Stick to the school’s designated drop-off flow
• Never pass a bus that’s loading or unloading children
Teen drivers?
• Seatbelts for every passenger
• Phones and devices put away
• Always drive the speed limit
We hope these reminders help families across Washington and Oregon kick off a safe school year. What other tips would you add for students heading back to class?
