Here's the thing about hail: the damage isn't always the dramatic, dented-gutter kind you can see from the ground. A lot of it is the sneaky kind. Bruised shingles. Granules knocked loose. Stuff that looks fine today and turns into a leak six months from now.

So before you forget it ever happened, do future-you a favor: grab your phone and snap a few pictures. 📸

Photos of the hail on the ground. Date and time. Anything that looks dinged up. It takes two minutes and it makes life so much easier if you ever need it later.

If your roof took hail last Monday night, before you call the first contractor that shows up at your door, there is something about your policy most homeowners do not know.

A lot of carriers have changed how they cover older roofs. They switched the coverage from RCV to ACV. The names sound similar. The check at the end of the claim does not.

RCV (Replacement Cost Value) pays what a new roof actually costs to put on your house in 2026. ACV (Actual Cash Value) pays what your 15-year-old roof is worth today, after depreciation. On an older roof in Liberty Center, Perrysburg, or anywhere in NW Ohio, the difference can be ten thousand dollars or more.

The switch usually happens at renewal, in the fine print, when nothing is wrong. By the time something is wrong, you have already agreed.

Right now, all we are saying is: take five minutes to look at your declaration page (the front of your policy where the dollar amounts and deductibles are listed).

Quick question: when do you think most house fires happen?

If you guessed "middle of the night," you're in good company. Most people do.

The actual answer is dinnertime. NFPA data shows the peak is 5 to 8 PM, when kitchens are busy and we're all running on fumes after a long day.

But here's the twist nobody talks about: the DEADLIEST fires happen overnight, around 4 AM. While everyone's asleep.

So really you've got two different things to think about. One is a "watch the stove" thing. The other is a "is your smoke alarm actually working" thing.

Test those alarms this weekend. 10 seconds. Could save everyone in the house. 🏠

We all know this guy. 😅
