Winter is gone and spring has sprung, so now is a good time to check your property for any post-winter damage. Read on to find out how you can get your property in shape and avoid costly future damage with our spring home maintenance checklist:

1️⃣ Check your roof
Repair cracked or missing shingles and remove debris buildup, such as leaves and branches. If you have a newer roof or are planning to get a new roof, you may be eligible for a home insurance discount.

2️⃣Clean gutters and downspouts
Clear your gutters and downspouts of leaves and debris to help the spring rain flow freely from off your roof, reducing the chance of damage caused by a backup.

3️⃣ Check for other exterior damage
Repair torn window screens and weather stripping, cover holes and gaps where animals and bugs can get in and check the chimney for damage.

4️⃣ Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors’ batteries
These life-saving devices are a key deterrent for home fires, eliminating or reducing damage to your home.

5️⃣ Get a dehumidifier
If your basement is damp, you may have poor ventilation – a dehumidifier can help dry things up. If you have valuables in your basement, talk to your insurance agent about sump pump backup coverage.

❇️ Bonus tip: Check in with your insurance agent
Make sure you’re protected with proper home insurance before severe spring weather hits.

Completing the items on this home maintenance checklist can keep your property looking good and help you avoid future home insurance claims.

When planning a getaway, you’re looking to relax and enjoy a break from the stress of everyday life. The last thing you want to worry about is what happens if things go wrong during your trip. Thankfully, you can count on your home and car insurance to protect you even when you’re away. Here are a few ways your home and auto insurance protect you when you’re traveling:

1. Roadside Assistance
While hitting the open road is a great adventure, sometimes breakdowns happen. Your auto insurance may provide you with emergency road service coverage, which can reimburse you for towing expenses, delivery of fuel, repair parts and labor charges.

2. Car insurance coverage for other drivers
Sharing driving duty with others on a road trip? Rest assured, if you give other licensed drivers permission to use your car, they are usually covered. This includes teens with learner’s permits!

3. Rental car insurance coverage
You might be wondering, “does my car insurance cover rental cars?” Generally, your auto policy should apply to the rental vehicle as long as you are driving within the United States (including your deductible). Always read the contract carefully and ask the rental agent to explain anything if you’re unsure.

Additionally, you can add vehicle rental and trip interruption coverage to your auto insurance to provide coverage for a rental vehicle if you have an accident away from home. With this protection, you may be reimbursed for a rental car if you have a covered claim, and if you have an accident more than 100 miles from home, you could also apply this coverage to travel expenses like transportation, lodging and meals. Expense limits differ by state, so talk to your insurance representative about the types of coverage available where you live.

4. Insurance coverage at a hotel or vacation home rental
If you are the victim of theft while you’re renting a vacation home or staying in a hotel, you may have coverage through your home insurance for your personal property. If you accidentally cause damage to the property you're staying in, you may have liability coverage as well.

If you’ve ever thought that you may not have enough life insurance, you’re not alone. According to the 2024 Insurance Barometer Study Report, 22% of life insurance owners say they do not have enough coverage. Non-owners who say they need life insurance represent 30% of all respondents.

So, what stops us from getting the coverage we know we need? Cost, or more accurately, perceived cost. Nearly three-quarters (72%) of all respondents overestimated the cost of a basic term life insurance policy. It’s worth noting that 54% said their estimate was based on “gut instinct” or a “wild guess.”

The truth is the right life insurance for your needs might be more affordable than you think. Contact me today to see how we can affordably enhance your life insurance coverage with Forbes’ 2024 #1 ranked life insurance in the U.S. or get you set up with a policy that will help you rest easy at night.

Planning some fun at home this summer? Make sure your backyard is safe for all your favorite activities by using this summer safety checklist.

Pool safety
⁃ Never leave children unattended
⁃ Kids should never be alone in or near a pool (even if they know how to swim).
⁃ Teach children to swim
⁃ Sign your kids up for swimming lessons if you haven’t
⁃ Learn emergency skills
⁃ Young children should learn when to get help. Older children and adults should learn CPR and first aid.
⁃ Buy pool safety equipment
⁃ Keep a first-aid kit, ring buoys and reaching poles nearby. Easy access to these items could be lifesaving.
⁃ Install a safety fence
⁃ Make sure your pool safety fence covers all pool sides and has self-closing gates. Also, install locks and alarms on doors with pool access.
⁃ Keep everyone in the know. Create and post safety rules and enforce them.

Trampoline safety
⁃ Add safety features
⁃ Make sure your trampoline has padding and netting. An enclosed trampoline can help prevent falls.
⁃ Maintain your trampoline. Inspect your trampoline regularly for missing pads, tears, exposed springs and other issues that could cause injury.
⁃ Enforce safety rules. Only one jumper at a time to reduce risk of injury.

Playground safety
⁃ Inspect your playground equipment regularly
⁃ Look out for protruding bolts, open hooks, broken ropes or rusted chains that could cause injuries. Replace equipment as needed.
⁃ Create a safe landing
⁃ Invest in soft-landing material like rubber tire chips or mulch to reduce or prevent injuries.
⁃ Teach playground rules
Having kids follow simple rules can contribute to playground safety and help avoid injuries.
⁃ Supervise young children at play
⁃ Keep a close eye on kids to reduce injuries and ensure your backyard safety expectations.

Review your home liability insurance limits
Even if you follow all these tips, accidents happen. Keep your liability insurance coverage updated (and consider adding an umbrella liability policy). If you add a pool, trampoline or playground to your yard, meet with your insurance agent to see if you need to increase your home liability coverage. Stay safe and have fun this summer!

Permanent life insurance policies are different from term life in some key ways. Term life can be great for temporary protection, but if you need long-term security with some added benefits, permanent life might be right for you. Here are some benefits you should be aware of:

*Predictable premiums - Most permanent life insurance, including whole life policies, offer consistent premiums that policyowners can budget for. Individuals with these policies benefit from predictable premiums while securing valuable death benefit protection.

Indexed universal life insurance, a type of permanent life insurance, provides policyowners with significant flexibility in premiums and coverage. This can be valuable for individuals with less predictable incomes or who want to adjust their premium payments from year to year.

*Cash value - One key difference between most term policies and permanent life insurance policies is the presence of policy cash values. These cash values can be accessed by the policy owner for various “living benefit” needs. This may include policy loans, withdrawals or partial surrenders. When structured correctly, policyowners can use cash values without tax consequences, making them an attractive choice for many individuals.
