This Friday, August 7th the West Virginia Peach Festival gets going in Fort Ashby…always making for one of the best events of the summer in the state! The three-day celebration fills the Mineral County Fairgrounds through Sunday with craft and cottage-food vendors, flea-market finds, a large food court, kids’ activities, and plenty of peach favorites, including fresh fruit, homemade peach ice cream, cobbler, and other sweet treats. Friday’s music features Annette & Gary at 6 p.m. and the Brayden Williamson Band at 8, followed Saturday evening by Tennessee Mojo and Josh Pantry. Sunday brings worship and praise music before headliner Josh Oldaker, with all performances included in admission. Saturday starts with the 9 a.m. Peach Festival 5K and one-mile fun walk, followed by a parade, the 10 a.m.–4 p.m. car show, a Trooper 5 helicopter demonstration, and a peach-eating contest. Sunday’s Family Fun Day adds a peach pie eating contest, four-legged and Big Foot races, Feed the Baby, the Donut Challenge, spoon races, and pass-the-bucket games. Now in its 12th year, the nonprofit festival also raises money for food pantries, children with medical needs, animal shelters, volunteer fire departments, and other community causes.
