August is here, and with it comes National Make-A-Will Month: a time dedicated to thinking about the future and how you can protect it. Estate planning is an essential part of aging well, and the National Council on Aging encourages older adults to get started.

Why estate planning? No matter what your “estate” includes, everyone needs a plan. Two-thirds of Americans don’t have a will, and many don't know where to start.

FreeWill.com removes the time and monetary constraints that can come with this process, allowing you and your loved ones to create a 100% free legal will in under 20 minutes!

New Mental Health Hotline

Starting July 16, 2022, the first nationwide three-digit mental health crisis hotline goes live. This hotline is designed to be easy to remember and by dialing 988, an individual in crisis will be connected to trained mental health counselors.

This is a free service. The program will be funded by the federal government which has provided over $280 million, not only for the hotline but to help states create systems that will do much more, including mobile mental health crisis teams that can be sent to people’s homes and emergency mental health centers. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the lead federal agency, in partnership with the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Veterans Affairs that will be overseeing this new initiative.

If you are struggling or know someone who is, please reach out for help. You are important, you are loved and you matter.

Today is "National Call Your Doctor Day", it's the easiest celebration on the calendar. It can set an example for others, help establish a baseline for many health concerns later in life, and improve opportunities for identifying risk factors. By making the appointment and keeping it, you place a priority on staying healthy so you can continue to meet those important obligations in the future. It only takes a few minutes to commit to this one annual exam. This is one appointment you will want to keep and mark on the calendar again next year.

NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS MONTH

National PTSD Awareness Month is observed annually in June. The month is dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and how to access treatment. June 27th is also National PTSD Awareness Day.

According to the National Center for PTSD, between 7 and 8 percent of the population will experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during their lifetime.

Men, women, and children can experience PTSD as a result of trauma in their lives. Events due to combat, accidents, disasters, and abuse are just a few of the causes of PSTD. No matter the reason, PTSD is treatable, but not everyone seeks treatment. There are resources available to help diagnosis PTSD and get help. There is no shame in seeking assistance.

If you or someone you know might be experiencing PTSD, visit these resources below, or seek professional care from a therapist who has experience treating PTSD.

The Marketplace has recently experienced supply chain issues with obtaining white envelopes typically used to deliver consumer notices. To avoid delays in mailing notices due to potential shortages, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently approved the temporary use of brown envelopes made from 100% recycled paper as a back-up option for delivering Marketplace notices to those consumers that have elected to receive paper copies in the mail.

Comparison of Current Envelopes and Temporary Recycled Envelopes

Because consumers may begin seeing these new envelopes soon, you may want to make your clients aware that these are official notices from the Marketplace that may contain important information requiring their immediate attention.

If a consumer has any concerns about whether a notice they have received is from the Marketplace, direct them to contact the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).
