🔁 **Can a Co-Signer Revoke a Bail Bond?**
**Yes, but…** it’s not as simple as just “taking back your signature.”
If a co-signer (also called an indemnitor) wants to revoke the bond, they must **contact the bail bond agency** and formally request what's often called a **surrender** or **bond revocation**.
✅ **What the Co-Signer Should Expect:**
1. **Formal Written Request:**
* The co-signer usually must sign a written request to revoke the bond, stating their reasons (e.g. flight risk, refusal to follow rules, no communication, etc.).
2. **Agency Decision:**
* The bail bond agency isn't *required* to agree, but they often do—especially if the defendant poses a risk.
3. **Defendant Will Be Arrested:**
* Once approved, the defendant will be **taken back into custody**, either voluntarily or by a recovery agent (bounty hunter).
* This does **not clear the co-signer’s financial obligations** until the defendant is back in jail and the bond is officially discharged.
4. **Possible Fees:**
* Some agencies charge a **surrender fee** or **transportation costs** for locating and returning the defendant.
5. **No Refunds:**
* The co-signer doesn’t get their bond money back (the premium is the cost of service already provided).
⚠️ **Important for Co-Signers to Know:**
* **You’re financially liable** until the defendant is back in custody and the court clears the bond.
* You **can’t just revoke because of an argument**—there needs to be a legitimate reason like flight risk or noncompliance.
* If the defendant skips court before the surrender, **you’re still on the hook** for the full bail amount.
