A major move in the bond market just helped pull average 30‑year mortgage rates below 6% for the first time in almost three years. That dip came after the government began purchasing $200 billion in mortgage‑backed securities — a strategy aimed at lowering rates and monthly payments by increasing demand for those bonds. Mortgage bond prices and yields move inversely: more demand → higher prices → lower yields → lower mortgage rates for you.
