If you have a farm or ranch you teach wotk ethic young!
The jump standards are built and ready to be used for some obstacles….the tires are getting their dirt fill….and the orders of obstacles supplies are showing up everyday.
Sounds like Saturday will be beautiful, I can’t wait!!
Also, aren’t you dying to know what obstacle uses a rubber ducky?!?!!? 🤣🤣🤣

We fixed the washout on the arena access road, and it can be driven on! I still have a bit of planing out to do...but I need the rain tomorrow to settle the gravel, and then I'll work on it.
Sneak peaks of the permanent obstacles are coming! The temporary in-arena obstacles will be starting to show up as well. My goal is to have 50 different obstacles you can challenge yourself and your horses with at the end of the year!
Don't forget to pre-register for the 13th if you want to guarantee yourself a slot!
Also - we will have a back up rain day on the 14th if necessary!! Don't worry, one of the days will be workable! We are high ground and dry out quickly enough to work obstacles at the walk and trot. (I work my horses IN the rain!)
Your payment goes directly back to barn improvements - I would like to get a judges stand, hi-tie lines for the ones that don't like to stand still, and lights in this year!
If we get enough folks partying with us this year, I might be able to put in the footing, but that's a $10K bill (we'll do full professional footing)....so it may take a bit of time. Remember, every time you join us, things will get a little better!

Attention everyone with horses!! Have you been wanting to go do something fun with your horses, but don’t have a ton of money for entry fees and overnights? Are you concerned about attending events that require high levels of competition and stress you out? Is your horse not rideable for some reason? Do you need to work on desensitization? Do you have a new/young/skittish horse you need to haul places and do things with?
WE HAVE THE ACTIVITY FOR YOU!!!!

Dragonfly Equestrian is bringing in Obstacle Fun Days! These are days where you can pay a single low fee to get in on our huge 150x250 arena (and the area around it!) and try taking your horse through obstacles. MOST OBSTACLES can be ON FOOT as well as ridden.

This is an un-timed and self-paced event, not a competition. You are not required to attend a clinic. You do not have to set a specific entry time. You can try each obstacle as many times as you want! (We do ask that you take turns!) Some days will have a professional photographed on scene, and you'll be able to get photos of yourself! (Fee dependent on photographer!)

Training sticks and flags are permitted.

There’s no specific tack or dress code (other than please wear clothing, and NO OPEN TOED SHOES!) – we don’t even expect you to have a saddle! Just show up, register, sign the waiver, and receive your tracking sheet….we will do these throughout the summer, so you can keep track of how you and your horse are progressing! For full day challenges, there will be full concessions including lunch availability. For weekday evening sessions, there will be half concessions available with drinks, snacks and candy to keep you powered up!

The space is limited to 30 riders at any one time – and you have two options:
1) Contact the barn and pre-pay for a guaranteed 4 hr slot (am/pm option on full days)
2) Show up and hang out until a space opens up! You may still unload your horses and walk them around the arena perimeter, or tie them to your trailer so they can watch!

Special bonus – if you manage to get at least one level of every obstacle throughout the year, you will be invited to one of the winter night time glow rides for FREE! (Yes, that is riding in the dark, in the snow, through LED lights everywhere!)

The cost is $40 PER RIDER (bring as many horses as you like!), and trainers are welcome to bring a whole string if you want!

Scheduled days are:
Saturday June 13th 8am-4pm
Thursday June 18th 4pm-9pm
Sunday July 5th 8am-4pm
Wednesday July 8th 4pm-9pm
Sunday July 26th 8am-4pm
Thursday August 13th 4pm-9pm
Wednesday August 26th 4pm-9pm

Message the page or text 612-240-1269 for pre-registration! Registration fee is refundable until two weeks before class. After that time, it becomes non-refundable, but may be transferred to a different person.

Rules for all events:
• No dogs allowed – except ours or by pre-received permission!
• If your horse is a kicker, please put a red ribbon in their tail so other riders know to stay clear. BLUE RIBBONS FOR STALLIONS PLEASE.
• Helmets are HIGHLY suggested.
• Each rider may have ONE ground helper present with them on an obstacle. Ground helpers must sign a liability form.
• Photos and videos must be taken from OUTSIDE the arena! We will not limit you from getting vids of your fun, but for safety reasons we cannot have excessive folks inside the arena. Photographers may spend no more than 10 mins along the fence, and must move immediately if requested by a participant or staff member.
• We understand that you may need to work on an obstacle multiple times. If your horse is having issues with an obstacle, get to the first level you can on that obstacle and then STOP. Reward your horse by taking a break and move along to let someone else try it. You can always come back later.
• Horses under control MUST yield to horses that are spooking or concerned. The rookie rider/horse ALWAYS has the right-of-way.
• Space yourselves out. More than three incidents of crowding other riders, failing to keep your horse under control, kicking out at other horses, or behavior deemed dangerous by referees may result in you being asked to leave.
• If red flags come out and/or a siren sounds, everyone must dismount their horse and remain where they are. This is a signal that there is an incident, and may involve a temporary halting of all activities. This can include anything from a loose horse to a rider or spectator medical emergency. Remain where you are until referees or staff advise you where to go.
• You may only wear ONE earbud if you are riding with music. This is so you can hear if there is another horse coming up behind you or an emergency of some sort. We will likely have music on site, as this is something horses need to get used to.

Any questions, contact us! I can't wait to see you all!

Do you live in the northern Midwest? Have you checked your horses today?
It is about to get COLD tonight - and your rapidly shedding furballs have lost a good portion of their fur. Time to definitely drop extra hay in spaces out of wind and rain, and consider blankets or stalling for those who are very old, very young, or not feeling 100%!!
Friendly reminder - feeding will take extra time tonight because I will be dropping squares in and around every shelter so they can stuff themselves and stoke those internal furnaces.
As much as I don't like dealing with blankets, I will be carefully checking everyone to make sure that we don't need to cover them up overnight.

ISO: The perfect new owner for a gem of a mare. **Note, the closest major city to us is Grand Forks, ND. PLEASE check a map before you assume you want to drive to Thief River Falls!**
Her ideal owner will be an intermediate-level adult amateur learning dressage that wants a horse to spoil incessantly and love on. Preferably in a place with pasture board with calm companions, and a cozy place to hide from the winter wind. Her owner should want to ride regularly, love to groom horses, and understand that just like you – this girl probably needs a chiropractor from time to time!!

Allie is a wonderful 10 year old OTTB. She stands a full 17H tall (measured with a true level), and has clean legs and great hooves. She ran on the track and accumulated over $86,000 in winnings from what I was told. Unfortunately, her owner ran into some hard times, and I cannot provide the ideal situation for her….so I am looking for someone who can make a good match for this lady.

Allie rides English and Western, bitted or bitless. She won’t buck or rear (more on that later), and has 4 correct gaits, including a gallop. She has been ridden by beginners (supervised in a round pen) to advanced riders with no major problems. Allie has sat in my pastures for four years, and gets randomly pulled out a few times a year when we need another horse, but this isn’t the best life for her. In the videos with the dressage saddle below, she hadn’t been ridden in an English set up in more than FIVE YEARS…and took everything in stride.

Here's the catch. Allie has arthritis in her hips because of her track experience. She needs bodywork to help her re-align everything, and regular light riding to keep her stretched and supple or she stiffens up. She has NEVER been lame, had an abscess, or had any gait problems in the four years she’s been here. She is just finishing a month of Adequan, which should be repeated each spring. I also keep her on Eclipse PM for nerve support for her spine.

Despite the arthritis, Allie can easily make it into third level dressage once she is back in shape. She has all the training….but like us, she’s been sitting on the couch watching Grey’s Anatomy reruns for four years and needs a gym membership! Because of the hip arthritis, bucking and rearing are as uncomfortable for her as they are for us! She prefers to just go forward or stop. She knows one-rein stops and will follow them.

You MUST have farrier and vet references. Allie does well for all vet work, but she needs breaks when trimming her hinds….she’ll start shaking when she’s getting fatigued, and then she just needs a walk out and back to stretch out again. Bute 45 mins before trims isn’t a bad idea.

Allie is SUPER friendly. She LOVES people, brushing, and hanging out. She is, however, the nervous type if she doesn’t have an emotional support human. She WANTS that bond, and once you have it with her, she comes when she’s called, follows you around, and will honestly try anything you ask. While other people can ride her, she’s more interested in having her own personal human. I have used her for lessons, and she’s decent, but she definitely prefers people she knows.
We don’t have bodyworkers close to us, and it makes it hard to get her what she needs. I also can’t give her the attention she deserves.

Allie’s one serious quirk while riding is that she does NOT like when other horses pass her (she won on the track because she’s a bit competitive!), and she may try to kick at them if they do. It’s easy to stop. You just touch her with your heel and the rein on that side to tell her no.

Allie trailers fine, but she will always hesitate to get in because she’s worried she won’t fit! Sometimes she just needs to look inside to understand it’ll be okay, but if she gets a bit balky, she’ll jump right in with a flag, sweatshirt, or waved hand behind her. She does well with slants, but she fits better in wider trailers!
Allie is an easy keeper for a TB, and does best on pasture to keep her moving. She is middle of the pecking order in a herd, and is hardly mareish. She rides out great on the trail, and will ride out alone if she trusts you. If she gets super nervous, she will start physically shaking, like a giant chihuahua, and wants to put her head on or near you for reassurance. Typically she’ll do this at the vet! Allie is good with dogs, four-wheelers, tractors, skid steers, mowers, etc. She’ll actually try to eat the bale while I bring it into the pasture if I don’t yell at her!

Last vettings:
3/19 – Sedated dental – we checked her for Lyme’s and anaplasmosis to make sure nothing else was making her stiff – she checked clear!
3/27 – Trim (Allie is barefoot and has always been that way here. She does fine on gravel roads.) Dewormed with ivermectin.
4/11 – 6-way, rabies, Coggins done
Next trim due: May 22nd
Spring f***l indicates she is a high shedder, and should be dewormed with Strongid at the beginning of June. I have a tube I will send with her if you purchase her before then.
Allie also comes with: Her heavyweight winter blanket, halter and lead rope, rain sheet, anatomical dressage bridle and the bit she prefers!

Video disclaimers:
1) It’s still chilly up here by Canada, so our horses aren’t slicked out yet. Allie lives out all winter in well below zero temps - so she's still fuzzy!!
2) I haven’t been in a dressage saddle for any length of time for four years myself. If she can handle me riding like a sack of potatoes with my legs sliding all over, she’ll do fine with most riders!! This is her at her very worst…she only gets better from here!
3) Allie is stiff, so I won't ask her to do all the things she actually knows because it isn't fair. She has lateral motion, and bend, but she is limited because she needs some poll work at the moment. Once she gets body work and comes back into shape, she's a helluva mover! She has the nicest slow trot you've ever seen in your life! She needs 2-3 months over poles and regular riding, and she should tune right up!

$7500, CASH ONLY. She is only discounted because of her arthritis. Despite likely being good for another 10 years with regular care, I want her to go to a home that will provide that. Price goes UP in July, because I will start re-conditioning her in June. This is a high-quality mare that deserves a loving person of her own. She is FOR sale, not ON sale, and you must show up and meet her before I will accept a buyer. Holds only with a non-refundable deposit. PPEs fine at your expense, but I have already told you about her arthritis!!
I will not take a million videos – she is an honest mare….come and meet her if you’re interested.
Allie should NOT be used for jumping, gaming, racing, or any work involving extremely tight and fast turns….she LOVES dressage, and is absolutely game for a trail ride here and there! She can even do novice endurance, but I wouldn’t take her up to an LD.

Whelp, since winter is deciding to make an appearance this year, we’ll be breaking out the rarely seen big kid toys. These blowers are the most effective way to clear lanes and fence lines when you don’t have places to “push” snow. I blow a lot of it into the tree lines where it won’t be a problem for use to slog through!!
