As the Buffalo head into another Friday night of football, we wanted to share a few memories from last week's Sponsor Night at The Villages Charter School!

What a beautiful evening celebrating a school that means so much to our community. We are proud to support The Villages Charter School and appreciate the dedication of the teachers, staff, students, and families who make it such a special place.

Thank you for a wonderful evening and for the thoughtful recognition. We're grateful to be part of such a great community!
Good luck on the road tonight, Buffalo! 💚💛🏈

A little fall color and some time away to recharge! 🍁

I’ve enjoyed a change of scenery and these beautiful fall leaves, but I’m looking forward to being back in the office on Monday and catching up with everyone!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful October!

We spend a lot of time talking about the numbers when planning for retirement.
But I also like to ask — what do you want retirement to look like?
More travel? More golf? More time with family? Or simply more freedom in your schedule?
We believe a good financial plan should consider not only the numbers, but what matters most to you in retirement.

How is it already October? 🍂
We’re officially in the last quarter of the year, and this is usually when I start reminding clients that there are still a few months left to review if everything is where we want it to be before year-end.
Have there been any big changes this year?
Are you taking what you need from your accounts?
Is there anything we should be thinking about before December 31 from a tax or planning standpoint?
And what we consider most important — does your plan still feel like it fits your life?
Retirement changes. Life changes. And sometimes your financial plan needs to change along with it.
If it’s been a while since you’ve looked at the whole picture, October may be a pretty good time to do it.

If you retired tomorrow, which financial decision would you feel least prepared to make?
When to take Social Security?
How much you can comfortably spend?
Where your income will come from?
What to do with your 401(k)?
What happens financially if one spouse dies first?
You definitely don’t have to answer publicly. 😊
But if you read that list and immediately thought “that one,” it may be something worth understanding a little better before retirement gets here.

“Should we just pay off the mortgage before we retire?”
I get this question a lot.
And usually my next question is, “What would you use to pay it off?”
Because paying off the mortgage is one decision. Where that money comes from is another.
If it means taking a large amount out of a retirement account, there may be tax considerations. We also want to think about how much cash you’d have left and what else you may want that money available for.
And sometimes, being debt-free before retirement is simply really important to someone.
There isn’t one answer that fits everyone.
It’s one of those decisions where I’d rather look at the whole picture before deciding what makes the most sense for you.

Serious question for Monday Morning. ☕️
What’s your coffee shop order?
I’m actually a tea person — English Breakfast with a little cream and sugar.
Tell me, what are you ordering?

“We have money in five different places. Is that a problem?”
It’s a question that comes up often as retirement gets closer.
An old 401(k). A current 401(k). IRAs. Investment accounts. Maybe an annuity.
Having several accounts isn’t necessarily unusual. It can be helpful to understand how each one may fit into your overall retirement plan.
Where might retirement income come from? What tax considerations could come with different accounts?
Sometimes preparing for retirement starts with simply getting a clearer picture of what you have and how it all works together.

Retirement planning conversations usually start with numbers.
But one of the questions I enjoy asking has very little to do with numbers:
What are you retiring to?
More travel?
More time with the grandkids?
Golf three mornings a week?
A second home?
Finally having a Tuesday with absolutely nowhere you have to be?
Knowing what you want retirement to look like can give the financial decisions a little more context.
Because, we believe, the goal isn't simply to retire.
It's to build a financial plan around the life you actually want to live when you get there.

Happy first day of fall! 🍂
Here in Central Florida, this mostly means we're emotionally ready for cooler weather whether the thermometer agrees or not.
I'll take the palm trees either way.
