Is your GEMT money going away? The short answer is not right now, and not all at once. But a proposed federal rule (CMS-2449-P) would cap certain Medicaid supplemental payments at the Medicare Ambulance Fee Schedule rate, and it names GEMT providers directly.

The timeline is longer than the headlines suggest. The limits would not take effect until rating periods beginning on or after January 1, 2029, and they would phase in over several years. That runway gives your agency time to understand its exposure and plan.

Closer to home, Texas Medicaid ambulance rate changes take effect September 1. If you bill Texas Medicaid, now is the time to confirm your billing systems reflect the new rates.
