💡 Did You Know? You may be able to qualify for a mortgage using bank statements instead of tax returns.
I recently worked with a self-employed borrower who initially applied for a conventional loan. Unfortunately, his last two years of tax returns didn't show enough qualifying income.
Instead of giving up, we explored another option—a Bank Statement Loan.
By using 12 months of business bank statement deposits, we were able to qualify him for the financing he needed. In some cases, we can even use 24 months of bank statements, depending on the borrower's situation.
If you're self-employed and have been told you don't qualify because of your tax returns, don't assume homeownership is out of reach. There may be another solution.
