From planting to harvest in just over a month! 🌱🥬

The first picture shows the grow tower before harvest, and the second shows it after the students enjoyed the fresh vegetables and herbs grown right in their classroom.

A total of 90 students had the opportunity to taste arugula, kale, bibb lettuce, spinach, rainbow chard, gourmet lettuce, dill, and basil from the tower. The grow tower was planted on April 7th and harvested on May 11th.

Students learned about hydroponic growing, observed how quickly the plants grew, and even tried vegetables and herbs many had never tasted before. We love seeing students excited about agriculture and where their food comes from! 💚

🌱 Bell County Farm Bureau had a great time this morning harvesting the grow towers with the 5th graders at Salado Elementary!

Jackie McLaughlin visited Ms. Dobbins’ and Ms. Hugo’s classes as students harvested and tasted Bibb lettuce, arugula, kale, gourmet lettuce, rainbow chard, and basil that they helped grow themselves. 🥬🌿

The students learned and observed:
• How quickly vegetables can grow
• The differences between hydroponic growing and outdoor production
• The importance of trying new foods and vegetables they had never tasted before

The students were excited and impressed by this innovative way of growing food! We love helping students learn where their food comes from and encouraging agricultural education in our schools. 💚

🌱 Bell County Farm Bureau had a great morning at Southwest Elementary in Belton for Texas A&M Extension Service Ag Day!

Robert Fleming had the opportunity to visit with over 350 students and approximately 30 teachers about soil, growing food, plants, and the journey from food to table.

The students were engaged, asked great questions, and even went home with wildflower seeds to plant and enjoy! 🌼

We are always thankful for the opportunity to share the importance of agriculture and help teach the next generation where their food comes from. Thank you to Southwest Elementary for having us! 🚜🌽🌱

Today was Harvest Day for the Grow Tower generously provided by Farm Bureau for Mrs. Daniel’s science class. Our students had the incredible opportunity to celebrate their hard work alongside some very special visitors. A huge thank you to Mrs. McLaughlin, Mr. Coufal, Mr. Cortese, and Representative Brad Buckley for taking time out of your busy schedules to come pour into our students. Your insights into farming and agricultural careers made a lasting impact.

Our students loved every moment and walked away with new knowledge, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for where our food comes from.
