2025 tax season is officially behind us!

Why Many People Think They’ll “Get Money Back”

A common misconception is that forming an LLC automatically creates large tax refunds. In reality:

1. LLCs don’t create refunds—income and expenses do.
Refunds come from overpayment of taxes, not from the business structure.
Pass‑through taxation simply moves business profit to your personal return.

2. LLC owners often owe more tax, not less.
Default LLC taxation includes self‑employment tax, which is 15.3% on net earnings (Social Security + Medicare)
This surprises many new owners who didn’t expect quarterly estimated payments.

3. Deductions reduce taxable income—not create cash.
LLCs can deduct legitimate business expenses (home office, supplies, travel)
but deductions only reduce tax owed. They do not generate refunds unless you overpaid during the year.
4. California adds extra costs.

California residents, note that the state charges:
$800 annual LLC franchise tax, regardless of income.
This often eliminates the idea that an LLC “pays you back.”

What You Do and Don’t Get with an LLC
You get:
Personal liability protection for business debts and lawsuits
Flexible tax options (sole prop, partnership, S‑corp, C‑corp)
Pass‑through taxation by default, avoiding corporate double taxation

You don’t get:
Automatic tax refunds nor Free money
Special deductions unavailable to non‑LLC businesses
Exemption from self‑employment tax

What to Consider Next
If your goal is tax savings, the key question is:
Do you expect enough profit for an S‑corp election to reduce self‑employment tax?

Filing Season Starts Here
Business Tax Year 2026 pre-filing is underway.

Don't wait till last minute, start tally up those expenses to your contractors, gather the information needed to file your 1099 NEC on time.

Review W-9 information
Validate information is correct
Reconcile mandatory withholding if any
Tax 2026 requirements is if you pay over $2000 to a contractor, you must file the form.

As always, we like to be proactive and offer support to all our business clients with their filings. We can do from collecting information to filing your 1099s.

Senate Passes Taxpayer Assistance and Service Act

The U.S. Senate today passed the bipartisan Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act by unanimous consent, marking an important step toward significant reforms affecting taxpayers, tax professionals and IRS operations.

The legislation includes more than 60 provisions designed to strengthen taxpayer rights, improve IRS service and modernize tax administration. The Senate Finance Committee previously advanced the legislation with strong bipartisan support in a 26-1 vote.

The bill now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration.
