The Fed meeting next week is looming large and there is a very good chance they will begin tapering Treasury and Mortgage Backed Security purchases. Once the tapering begins, you can expect mortgage rates to bounce and begin an upward trajectory. I would recommend locking in your rate this week to avoid the imminent increase.

Rarely in my 23 year mortgage career have I seen a predictable rate change. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are implementing a 1/2% increase, which will go into effect on most mortgages in October. Additionally, the rates went up nearly 1% after the last election in 2016. If you want to refinance, the time is now because the window is closing quickly!

BUYER BEWARE - Hero, Ygrene, Pace, and other loans will put a lien on your property. These loans are typically used to finance solar and other home improvements. However, many times the homeowners do not understand that these loans may affect their ability to refinance or sell their homes. The salesperson may in fact state that it is not a lien, I recently spoke with an 83 year old homeowner whose property taxes increased by 680%.
