APRIL FOOLS’ DAY
Though its exact origins remain a mystery, some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. In the Julian Calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1.
People who failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called “April fools.”

ST PATRICK’S DAY
May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow. And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.
St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, who died on March 17th. Generally, the holiday is a celebration of Irish culture including food, drinks (generally alcoholic), music, dancing, and the wearing of green attire. Some cities are also known to hold St. Patrick’s Day parades or even dye the local river green.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Remember to Spring Forward on Sunday! Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend!
Several countries, including the United States, Great Britain, Australia, and Germany, adopted Daylight Saving Time during World War I to conserve fuel by reducing the need for artificial light. Daylight Saving Time in most of the United States starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Parts of the US that do not practice Daylight Saving Time include Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

PRESIDENTS’ DAY
Presidents' Day, created by the1971 Uniform Monday Holiday Act is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Presidents' Day does not fall on the actual birthday of any American president. Four chief executives—George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan—were born in February, but their birthdays all come either too early or late to coincide with Presidents' Day.

VETERANS DAY
In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Many countries commemorated Armistice Day the following year. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day in the US; November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. While the US now uses Veterans Day, it is commonly referred to as Remembrance Day in Canada and in many of the other Allies.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day—a common misunderstanding, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
