2 seconds could cost a life...... 1,600 stops for distracted driving in just one day here in Michigan....

Over 1,600 Traffic Stops Made During One-Day International Distracted Driving Enforcement Effort

PAW PAW, MICH. On April 1, 2026, officers from 20 different police agencies in Michigan and Canada performed 1,638 traffic stops as part of the “Lake to Lake, Focused and Safe” distracted driving initiative, a first-of-its-kind international traffic enforcement operation spanning more than 500 miles along I-94, Highway 402 and Highway 401.

“Distracted driving continues to pose a serious threat to everyone on the road,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police (MSP). “The results of this unified enforcement effort sends a clear message that safe, attentive driving is critical, no matter where you travel.”

In total, officers issued 1,140 traffic citations and 645 verbal warnings, and made 48 arrests.

Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Police

“This initiative highlights the power of coordinated enforcement and reinforces our collective commitment to saving lives by addressing distracted driving across one of North America’s busiest travel corridors,” Grady added.
