Being on the ground in the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton in both North Carolina and now in Florida, I’ve had a brief moment to reflect on a 22 year career of doing what I truly love. It’s a role that most people don’t understand, or know very little about. It truly takes a unique blend of empathy, resilience, and professionalism to step into such challenging environments after natural disasters. Adjusters face not only physical hardships—like damaged infrastructure and lack of basic amenities—but also the emotional weight of helping people rebuild their lives. Their ability to assess damages and create accurate scopes is crucial for the recovery process, providing a vital lifeline to those affected. It’s a demanding job that requires both technical skill and a deep sense of compassion. As I wrap up my day and shut the door to our “war room” I have to take a moment to express the gratitude and appreciation I have for all of the claims adjusters that I’ve gotten to work alongside, and that truly pour their heart and soul into helping others. I see the physical exhaustion in their bodies and the lack of sleep in their eyes but yet they remain with a smile on their face, ready to tackle another day and make a difference.
