LET is my word for 2026.

Let them. Let me. Two phrases. A whole different way of thinking.

Let them have opinions about what I’m doing. Let me build an independent financial planning firm for women, widows, and military-connected families.

The Let Them Theory reads like a personal growth idea. In my office it’s a financial planning tool.

Most of the women I sit with aren’t stuck on the math. They’re stuck on what everyone else thinks they should do with the money, the house, the career, the next chapter.

Let them think it. Let me decide.

I grew up in Massachusetts. I went to Boston University. From the 19th floor of my dorm I could see into Fenway.

Friday I was standing in it again. With my 80yo dad. Watching the Sox beat the Giants 6 to 4 on an absurdly beautiful August night.

I'm a finalist! 🎉

The Tampa Bay Chamber just named BayView Financial Planning one of three finalists for Small Business of the Year in the Startup category.

Here's the part I didn't expect: the application process itself. Months of essay questions and interviews forced me to think harder about my business than I had in the 2+ years since founding it — who I serve, what's working, and why this firm exists at all. I get to keep all of that.

One of the most helpful frameworks I use with clients during major life transitions is something called the Decision-Free Zone (DFZ).

As a Certified Financial Transitionist (CeFT®), I’ve seen how easy it is to feel like every decision has to be made immediately, especially during military transition, a PCS, retirement, widowhood, or career change.

But the truth is… not everything is urgent.

That’s why I often help clients sort decisions into three categories:
• Now
• Soon
• Later

And honestly? A lot more things belong in the “soon” and “later” buckets than people realize.

That space gives you time to research, ask questions, talk to experts, and think through decisions that could impact your life for decades.

If I was 25 again, I’d keep investing, even when it felt scary.

I remember watching the market drop, and getting really nervous about my investments. It felt like the world was falling apart.

For most people, especially young investors, when the market drops, it doesn’t feel like an opportunity.
It feels like something is wrong. Like you should wait. Like you should “pause until things settle down.”

That’s exactly what I used to think.

But what I didn’t fully understand at the time is this:
When markets are down, you’re essentially buying investments on sale.

And the funny part?
I love a good bargain.
I’ll wait for sales.
I’ll compare prices.
I’ll feel great about getting something for less.
But when it came to investing, I did the opposite.
I hesitated when prices dropped, even though that’s when long-term investors often get the most value.

PCS moves are an exciting part of military life, but they can also come with financial surprises that many families don’t anticipate.

Even when moving expenses are reimbursed, families often have to pay for things upfront. Temporary housing, travel expenses, deposits, and household setup costs can add up quickly during the transition.

There are also smaller expenses that are easy to overlook—things like replacing household items, covering childcare during packing, or paying for pet care during travel.

These costs don’t mean a PCS move is financially unmanageable, but they are helpful to plan for ahead of time.

Having a financial cushion and understanding what expenses might arise can make the entire transition feel much more manageable.

Military families navigate financial realities that many civilian households never experience, from frequent relocations to evolving benefits throughout a career.

Planning ahead helps make those transitions smoother and allows families to focus on settling into their new duty station with confidence.

People love to shame the “daily latte.”

“You should invest that money instead.”
“You should put it toward debt.”
“You’re wasting money.”

But I think personal finance is more nuanced than that.

If that latte gives you the energy you need to get through a demanding job, show up for your family, or keep building toward your goals… maybe it’s not the problem people make it out to be. And honestly? Sometimes small moments of joy matter too.

A latte is not usually what derails someone’s financial future. Lack of a plan, overwhelming debt, no emergency savings, or avoiding financial decisions altogether tend to matter a lot more.

Emily and Jason are a dual-income military family with two kids.

They’ve been talking about taking a summer trip to San Diego to visit family and spend time at the beach. But every year, the same thing happens:
They start planning the trip…
Look at flight prices…
Start worrying about the cost…
And then they either:
• put parts of the trip on a credit card
• scale it back more than they want to
• or feel stressed the whole time they’re traveling

So this year, they wanted to approach it differently.

How Stacy Would Help Them Plan

Step 1: Estimate the real cost of the trip
Instead of guessing, Stacy helps them outline the full expected cost:
Flights for four: $1,600
Airbnb for 5 nights: $1,800
Rental car: $400
Food & activities: $700
Estimated total trip cost: $4,500
Now the trip has a clear number instead of uncertainty.

Step 2: Create a vacation sinking fund
The trip is six months away.
Instead of putting the trip on a credit card, Stacy helps them create a monthly travel fund.
$4,500 ÷ 6 months = $750 per month
They set up an automatic transfer into a separate “Vacation Fund.”
Now the trip is already paid for before they leave.

Step 3: Align it with their broader financial plan
Before finalizing the trip, Stacy checks that the vacation fits into their larger financial goals:
• retirement contributions still on track
• emergency fund intact
• no impact on long-term savings goals
The trip becomes an intentional part of their financial plan, not something that disrupts it.

Step 4: Build flexibility
Stacy also helps them build a spending buffer of $500 for unexpected costs.
That way they can enjoy the trip without worrying about every dollar.
The Outcome
By the time the trip arrives:
• The vacation is already funded
• They aren’t using credit cards
• Their long-term financial goals are still on track
And most importantly — they can actually enjoy the trip.

Financial planning isn’t just about retirement.
It’s about helping people enjoy the life they’re building along the way.
When experiences like travel are planned intentionally, they become something you can enjoy without financial stress.
