Big news for Florida homeowners: the state's updated wind mitigation inspection form went live in April 2026, and insurance companies are NOW rolling out the new discount tables that go with it. That means a fresh inspection could save you more than it would have just a few months ago.
Here's what a wind mitigation inspection does: a licensed inspector checks your home's hurricane-resistant features, your roof shape, how it's attached, impact windows, hurricane straps, and documents everything on an official form. Your insurance company uses that report to give you credits on your premium.
With the updated 2026 form, those credits can be bigger. South Florida homeowners paying $4,000β$7,000/year in premiums could see savings of $800β$2,000+ annually. The inspection itself costs $95β$150. Most people make that back in the first month or two.
When was YOUR last wind mitigation inspection? If it's been more than 3β4 years, or if you've made any upgrades (new roof, impact windows, hurricane straps), it's worth getting a fresh one.
