Timely article. Had drinks with a bank loss-mitigation guy last night. He was sharing with me the trouble he was having with large commercial deals. As a banker, believe me when I say sometimes costs more for a bank to foreclose than to just take the hit and walk away.

We strongly believe that this will continue for the foreseeable future. Although the media and politicians preach about a recovery, we see no economic indicators that lead us to believe that recovery is around the corner. Tip from a Banker: A friend recently had her ATM card "skimmed". Before using an ATM machine or gas pump, look at the port where you insert your card as well as the keypad itself. Take your fingernail and try to see if either pries up. Skimmers are placed in the port and sometimes a fake keypad over the actual keypad to record the PIN. I actually had one of my ATMs hit over the weekend one time. We caught it during our normal opening procedures on Monday morning. Be careful!
