It’s our last day of National Hurricane Preparedness Week! Today’s task is a perfect Saturday project.

Today’s task: Strengthen your home.

Now is the time to improve your home’s ability to withstand storm conditions. Today, walk around the exterior of your home to look for structural weaknesses. Are your exterior doors and garage doors hurricane-proof? Do you have storm shutters? Do your trees need trimming?

Take note of these items and start the process of strengthening your home. Now is the best time to purchase plywood, steel, or aluminum panels to have on hand if you need to board up the windows and doors ahead of an approaching storm.

Your daily dose of prep continues! Today’s task: Understand forecast information.

National Weather Service forecast products can tell you a lot about what is expected to happen with a storm, including the storm’s paths, rainfall amounts, wind speeds, and more.

Do not focus on a specific storm category; all hurricanes and tropical storms can bring life-threatening storm surge, inland flooding, and damaging winds.

National Hurricane Preparedness Week continues!

Today's Task: Create a communication plan.

Take the time now to write down your hurricane plan and share it with your family. Determine family meeting places, and make sure to include an out-of-town location in case of evacuation. Write down or print a list of emergency contacts. Include phone numbers for insurance, utilities, and other critical services. Remember, the internet may not be accessible during or after a storm.

Your daily dose of hurricane prep continues! Today’s task: Take a home inventory.

Take the time before hurricane season begins to document your possessions: photos, serial numbers, or anything else that you may need to provide your insurance company when filing a claim.

National Hurricane Preparedness Week continues! Today’s task: Get an insurance checkup.

Call us for a full insurance review. We’ll discuss whether you have enough coverage to repair or replace your home and/or belongings.

Last year, we saw firsthand how floodwaters can cause devastating damage—even in areas outside traditional flood zones. Home insurance does not cover damage caused by rising water and requires a separate flood insurance policy. But act quickly, as those policies usually have a 30-day waiting period.

Need flood insurance? We’ve got you covered. We recommend all Florida homeowners purchase flood insurance. See how affordable flood coverage is here: www.homefrontinsurance.com/flood-quote

Your daily dose of hurricane prep continues! Today’s task: Learn your evacuation zone.

Take a moment today to determine if you live in a storm surge evacuation zone. A storm surge is water pushed toward the shore by winds swirling around the storm, and historically, it has caused the largest loss of life in hurricanes. Knowing your designated zone will be imperative when it comes time to develop an evacuation plan.
