With Hurricane Milton expected to make landfall tomorrow or early Thursday, there’s still time to get the critical tasks done to keep your home and family safe.
Preparing ahead of time will help you weather the storm with more confidence and reduce potential damage. Focus on securing your property, gathering necessary supplies, and making sure you and your loved ones are ready for any disruptions that may follow the storm, such as power outages or shortages of essential items.
Take these steps to ensure you're fully prepared:
-- Bring all loose items inside from outside your home.
-- Put up hurricane shutters or plywood to protect windows and doors.
-- Fill all vehicles with gas and purchase extra gas for your generator, if applicable.
-- Have a 3-day supply of water (1 gallon per person per day) and non-perishable food.
-- Ensure you have flashlights, LED lanterns, and plenty of extra batteries.
-- Prepare a First Aid kit and necessary prescription medications.
-- Have a battery-powered or hand-crank radio for emergency updates.
-- Pack cash, important documents (like your insurance policy), and a car charger for your phone.
-- Keep extra pet food and water for your pets.
-- Make sure you have a manual can opener, basic tools, and a fire extinguisher.
