Took a little over a year but just finished the final challenge in the Lord of the Rings Conqueror series (282 miles into Mordor! 🌋). Maintaining physical readiness is essential in the U.S. Navy and finding fun ways to maintain that fitness is a lot more rewarding. Already signed up for The Rohan, Helm’s Deep, and Gondor series; plus taking on the 25th-anniversary of Fellowship of the Ring theatrical release one-time Race Across Middle Earth Challenge at the end of September (yes, 25 years... feel old yet? 😂). How do you keep your fitness routine fresh and stay accountable to your long-term goals?

Flashback Friday 📸this was about 15 years ago now when I was on the USS George Washington when it was out of Yokosuka Japan. Recently there has been some negative news about Navy ship deployment but it was one of the best experiences of my life as I had the opportunity to hit 7 countries while on deployment and 16 major cities in Japan while homeported. Experiences I’ll never forget and has me saying “I’d love to go back to the ship” periodically.

In 2021, my Navy provider encouraged me to get a sleep study. I was hit with 35 sleep disturbances an hour and was issued the good old CPAP, it didn’t cut it. In 2023, I went all-in on airway surgery (septo, turbinates, UPPP, and tonsils). Recovery was tough, but Sonic Cherry Limeade Chillers definitely helped! I knew I was feeling better post-recovery 😴✨, but was shocked when I finally got the results recently when seeing them side by side. So grateful for the medical benefits from my time in service and the colleagues I work with who encouraged and supported my convalescence to recover! Also my daughter didn’t like the Darth Vader mask lol 😅

August 14, 1945 marked the end of WWII hostilities in the Pacific and the start of vital medical recovery and humanitarian efforts. As a Navy Hospital Corpsman, I am proud of the combined efforts in rebuilding and creating a lasting peace that allows my children to celebrate both their American and Japanese heritages. Taking a moment today to honor those who served to restore health, dignity, and peace.

Flashback Friday 📸 Starting this series with my “Why.” Originally, I joined to travel, but over time my "why" shifted. Now every time I put on my uniform, it’s for my kids. Despite the turmoil, I strongly believe in America, and I serve in healthcare because I believe it’s our responsibility to help those in need. I’ve had unbelievable opportunities, and I will be forever grateful for the experiences, friends, and family I’ve gained through my service. The Navy helped me find my “Why”, what’s yours? Need help finding it? Reach out, let’s talk.
