CURTAIN AIRBAGS
What are they and why should you know?

Curtains airbags deploy from the roof rails of a vehicle to protect passengers from potential head injury.

Why do you need to know this? When the curtain airbag deployed in my recent collision, I COULDN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET TO MY BABY. As you can imagine, the baby squalling made the moments feel like hours. I was a mother in pure panic mode. You see, the van had a safety feature that locked up the automatic sliding doors. When I couldn’t get the baby’s door open, I rolled down the window and couldn’t figure out how to get around the curtain airbag. I just wanted to see and hold my baby. It was at that time, my oldest child crawled in the back and rescued her siblings leading them to exit through the front driver’s door underneath the curtain airbag.

BE FAMILIAR WITH YOUR VEHICLE’S AIRBAGS. It will make the unthinkable a little less horrid if it happens. Had I truly known that a curtain airbag was similar to a barrier, I would have reacted differently, reacted more efficiently.
