This happened to an elderly couple in the Equality community. So please do not provide any information and call 911 immediately.

Scam artists are finding more and more ways to target people every day through social media, phone calls, emails, text messages, and even in person by impersonating officials or businesses. Their goal is to gain access to your personal information or financial accounts. Sheriff Howell and Coosa County Sheriff’s Office staff want our community to stay aware, cautious, and prepared. Never feel rushed to give out personal information, banking details, passwords, or payment over the phone, online, or in person unless you are inside a government/County office. If something feels suspicious, take a moment to verify who you are speaking with before responding. We are providing useful information and tips to help protect yourself and your family from scams and fraudulent attempts in any scenario.
