May we never become so comfortable in freedom that we forget it was paid for in sacrifice. 🇺🇸
Because somewhere in America,
there are families carrying grief
that never left after the war ended.
There are mothers who still ache for sons who never came home.
Wives who still wear wedding rings beside folded flags.
Children who only know their father
through photographs,
dog tags,
and stories told in trembling voices.
Memorial weekend is beautiful,
but it is also sacred.
It is the sound of laughter
made possible by people
who gave up every future version of their life
for this country.
The beach trips.
The backyard cookouts.
The fireworks.
The ordinary moments we get to call normal.
Someone sacrificed everything for those moments.
So while we celebrate,
may we also remember.
Not just the soldiers,
but the families who kept living after the knock on the door.
The ones who learned how to survive a loss
most of us cannot even imagine.
Freedom has never been free.
It was paid for by names carved into stone,
boots that never walked back through the front door,
and hearts brave enough to lay everything down for people they would never meet.
And may we never forget them.
