I have been asked what type of tools are needed to fix clocks. Well it's a lot really, but there are a few tools that really help.
I have a Lathe, drill press, and a bench vice I use all the time.
Here is a picture of the three together. I use the Sherline 4100 lathe. I also have inch and millimeter collets for it. These are really helpful in buffing and cleaning the pinions. It's also used to repivot. I think I posted a few pictures a while back doing a project just like that.
Test stands, you can't have enough test stands. We have 3 large test stands, these are used to hold grandfather clock movements, or movements with long drop pendulums. I have 2 cuckoo clocks on one stand. As you can see from the photo. Also a bench stand. Normally I use this for non pendulum movements, but this one I have another cuckoo clock movement on it.
Ok well that's two posts in one day. Hope it makes up for the past few months of silence.
If anyone wants to know more go ahead and ask. It might take a day or two to reply, but we try to answer all questions.

We have been so busy that I haven't had a second to post anything.
Well here is a cuckoo clock movement that I was working on over the weekend. I am right in the middle of a few bushings. One is installed and I just finished reaming out the hole for another.
I'm using a bushing tool to keep all bushing perpendicular to the plates so it's as if I never did any work. I do like free hand, its quicker, but this plate had very thick brass.
I needed to use Bergeon bushing because the person before me used that type of bushing, so I kept the bushings the same type.
I like KWM personally, but I do have both styles because I like to keep the bushing the same on the movement I work on.

Fixing a barrel hook. This movement had a gear break and then the spring snapped back and broke the hook.
Already fixed the gear and now just finished the hook. Should have this clock back up and working shortly.

Changing out a few bent trundles on a lantern pinion.
This was from a Seth Thomas turn of the century mantel clock. This strike chain lantern pinion finally felt it's age. But it's all fixed and working like new.

Working on the lathe today spinning a gear.
Also put a new main spring on an American movement that was broken, and installed 5 new bushings on a school clock.

Well today has been a productive day. Finished 4 clocks, 3 cuckoo's and a mantel clock.
I also started a grandfather clock. This clock was a little different then the last grandfather movement that I work on. It is about 50 years older, the brass is thicker, and about twice as heavy. The gears are bigger so makes it easier on these old eyes to see!
I'll be working on this movement for the next few days. I'll try to post a few pictures of it up on the test stand running once I get that far.
But for now here are a few pictures I took as I was taking it apart.
