What you need to know about life insurance through your employer 👇🏽
Many people assume the coverage they get at work is all they’ll ever need.
How many times have you donated to a gofundme for a police officer and or ANYONE?
Life insurance provided by any law enforcement falls under different guidelines.
How long have they been an officer?
What rank are they…
How far from retirement? Did they take the basic coverage or have their own life insurance?
Did they retire and not take the benefit?
Look.. this may be sensitive and triggering but if we don’t talk about the hard conversations it won’t make anything better with silence 💙.
The real problem?
The cost of employer-provided life insurance is often based on your employment status, age, and group rates. When you retire or leave your job, you may be offered the option to keep that coverage but now you’re older, the rates can be significantly higher, and the coverage may become difficult to afford.
This is why many people reach retirement age only to realize they can’t afford the amount of coverage they actually want.
The mistake isn’t having work coverage.
🚨 The mistake is relying on it as your only coverage.
Owning personal life insurance while you’re younger and healthier allows you to lock in your own rate, maintain control of your coverage, and protect yourself regardless of where you work.
Work coverage can be a great benefit.
But how can every single employee have the same amount of coverage if EVERYONE is in a different place of their life with different financial responsibilities?
Let that sink in..
I, encourage you to not confuse a benefit with a plan.
