🚜🌱 Spring farming season is underway across St. Joseph County, and that means both motorists and farmers are now sharing the road more frequently.

Drivers can expect to encounter tractors, planters, sprayers, and oversized equipment traveling between fields, including irrigation pivot spans and other machinery that may be unusually long or wide and require extra room to maneuver.

Farmers and equipment operators also understand the impact slow-moving equipment can have on traffic and are encouraged to use proper lighting, slow moving vehicle emblems, escorts when needed, and to safely allow traffic to pass whenever possible.

Safety on rural roads works best when everyone understands what the other is dealing with.

πŸš— Motorists:
β€’ Slow down and stay patient
β€’ Expect wide turns and slower speeds
β€’ Avoid risky passing attempts
β€’ Give equipment extra space

🚜 Farmers & Equipment Operators:
β€’ Ensure lights and reflective markings are visible
β€’ Use escorts and warning vehicles when appropriate
β€’ Watch for traffic buildup behind equipment
β€’ Travel roadways as safely and efficiently as possible

St. Joseph County has a strong agricultural community that keeps our local economy moving and helps feed families across the region. With patience, awareness, and mutual respect, we can make this a safe season for everyone traveling our roads.
