Myth: "I've had the same Medicare plan for years. I don't need to look at it."

It's easy to think that if your plan has worked well for you, there's no reason to look at it again. But Medicare plans can change from year to year. Changes can include premiums, benefits, copays, networks, prescription coverage, and other details.

Taking a little time to review your coverage each year can help you know what to expect and avoid surprises later.

Your insurance card is important, but it is only the starting point.

It tells you some basic information about your coverage, but it does not tell you everything you need to know. Do you know which doctors are in your network? What you'll pay for different types of care? How your deductible works? What your prescription coverage includes?

Taking a little time to familiarize yourself with your coverage before you need it can save you time, money, and a lot of frustration later.
