📊 A Business Story: The Difference One Year Can Make

Last year, a business owner came to us in October with boxes full of receipts and months of unreconciled accounts.

They had no idea whether they were profitable.

No idea what they owed in taxes.

No idea if cash flow would carry them through year-end.

Fast forward one year.

Today, their books are updated monthly. Payroll runs smoothly. Tax planning happens before deadlines arrive. Most importantly, they know exactly where their business stands financially.

What changed?

Not their industry.

Not their customers.

Not their products.

They simply started paying attention to their numbers.

The lesson is simple:

Financial success doesn't happen because you work harder.

It happens because you make informed decisions based on accurate information.

Every successful business starts with understanding where it stands today.

⚠️ The September 15 Tax Deadline Is Almost Here

A reminder for business owners and taxpayers:

September 15 is a major IRS deadline.

This deadline commonly affects:

✔ S Corporation returns on extension
✔ Partnership returns on extension
✔ Third-quarter estimated tax planning
✔ Various state filing requirements

Missing extension deadlines can result in penalties that continue to grow until filings are completed.

Even if you cannot pay your full balance immediately, filing on time is often significantly better than filing late.

If you're unsure whether this deadline applies to you, now is the time to find out—not after the deadline passes.

A quick review today can prevent unnecessary penalties tomorrow.

📂 The Difference Between Organized Businesses and Stressed Businesses

Every year, we see two types of business owners.

The first group knows exactly where their financial records are. They can quickly find invoices, receipts, payroll reports, and tax documents.

The second group spends hours searching through emails, folders, desk drawers, and truck consoles trying to find information they need.

The difference isn't intelligence.

It's systems.

Organization isn't exciting. It isn't glamorous. But it saves time, reduces stress, and often saves money.

When your records are organized:
✔ Tax season becomes easier
✔ Loan applications move faster
✔ Payroll questions get answered quickly
✔ Financial decisions become clearer

The businesses that seem to have everything under control aren't necessarily working harder. They've simply created systems that keep them organized year-round.

A few minutes spent organizing today can save hours of frustration tomorrow.

📊 Halfway Through the Year: Are Your Numbers Supporting Your Goals?

Back in January, many business owners set ambitious goals.

Increase revenue.
Grow the business.
Improve profitability.
Hire employees.
Expand operations.

Now that we're well into the year, it's time to ask an important question:

What do your numbers actually say?

Not what you hope.
Not what you think.
Not what it feels like.

What do the numbers say?

Financial statements tell a story. They reveal whether your business is moving toward its goals or drifting away from them.

The good news is that we're only halfway through the year. There is still plenty of time to make adjustments, improve processes, reduce unnecessary expenses, and strengthen profitability.

Successful businesses don't wait until December to evaluate their performance. They review, adjust, and improve throughout the year.

The businesses that finish strong are often the businesses that take time now to understand exactly where they stand.

📢 Why Business Owners Should Pay Attention to Mid-Year IRS Changes

Many business owners assume tax updates only happen at the beginning of the year.

That's not always the case.

The IRS occasionally makes mid-year adjustments when economic conditions significantly change. The recent mileage rate increase is a perfect example.

Changes like these can impact:
📌 Employee reimbursements
📌 Business deductions
📌 Budget forecasts
📌 Payroll procedures
📌 Expense reporting systems

The businesses that stay informed are often the businesses that avoid costly mistakes.

One small compliance update may seem insignificant, but when multiplied across dozens of employees or thousands of miles, the financial impact becomes meaningful.

Staying proactive helps ensure your business remains compliant while maximizing every available deduction.

🚗 Important Update for Business Owners & Employees Who Drive for Work! 🚗

The IRS has announced a mid-year increase to the standard business mileage rate, effective July 1, 2026.

📈 New Business Mileage Rate:
✅ January 1 – June 30, 2026: 72.5¢ per mile
✅ July 1 – December 31, 2026: 76¢ per mile

That's an increase of 3.5 cents per mile.

Why the Change?

The IRS made the unusual mid-year adjustment due to rising fuel and vehicle operating costs across the country. Mileage rates are designed to reflect the average costs of operating a vehicle for business purposes, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation.

What This Means for Your Business

✔️ Update mileage reimbursement policies effective July 1.
✔️ Ensure payroll and expense reimbursement systems reflect the new rate.
✔️ Continue maintaining accurate mileage logs to support reimbursements and tax deductions.
✔️ Review employee expense reports to ensure the correct rate is being applied based on the date of travel.

A small rate increase can add up quickly for businesses with employees who regularly drive for work.

Need help making sure your payroll and reimbursement processes stay compliant? All Is Accounted For is here to help!

📊 Revenue Is Vanity. Profit Is Reality. Cash Flow Is Survival.

One of the biggest misconceptions among business owners is believing that a growing business automatically means a healthy business.

You can have record-breaking sales and still struggle to pay your bills.

You can have your busiest month ever and still find yourself wondering where all the money went.

Why?

Because revenue only tells part of the story.

What really matters is how much of that revenue you're keeping, how efficiently you're operating, and whether enough cash is available when obligations come due. Many businesses focus entirely on sales growth while overlooking profitability and cash flow. That's often where problems begin.

The most successful businesses aren't always the ones bringing in the most revenue. They're the ones that understand their numbers and make decisions based on facts rather than assumptions.

As we move into the second half of the year, ask yourself:

Do you know your actual profit margins?

Do you know where every dollar is going?

Do you know what your business needs to generate each month to remain healthy?

If not, now is the perfect time for a financial checkup. Mid-year is one of the most valuable opportunities business owners have to adjust course before year-end arrives.

🏦 **FirstBank & PNC Merger: What Colorado Customers Need to Know**

Over the past few days, many Colorado residents and business owners have experienced issues related to the transition of FirstBank accounts and services to PNC Bank following PNC's acquisition of FirstBank. PNC completed the conversion of approximately 780,000 customers and 95 branches across Colorado and Arizona on June 22, 2026.

As with many large banking conversions, some customers have reported temporary issues, including:
• Duplicate or pending transactions
• Online banking access concerns
• Bill pay disruptions
• Account balance discrepancies
• Longer-than-normal customer service wait times

PNC has acknowledged that some transaction-related issues are known and are being addressed.

If your business or personal accounts were affected by the conversion, now is a good time to:
✅ Review recent transactions carefully
✅ Verify account balances
✅ Confirm automatic payments and direct deposits processed correctly
✅ Monitor payroll transactions and vendor payments
✅ Keep documentation of any discrepancies you find

For business owners, even a temporary banking issue can affect payroll processing, vendor payments, cash flow management, and account reconciliation. Taking a few minutes to review your accounts now may save significant headaches later.

At All Is Accounted For, we're encouraging clients to closely monitor their banking activity during this transition period and contact their financial institution immediately if they notice anything unusual.

A bank merger of this size doesn't necessarily mean long-term problems, but it does mean paying extra attention to your accounts while systems and records are being integrated.

Have you experienced any issues since the FirstBank to PNC transition? Let us know in the comments.
