Storm Damage? Here’s What to Record for Your Insurance Claim
If your home or property was affected by the recent storm, here’s a quick checklist to help you document everything your insurance company may need:
1. Photos & Videos – Take clear pictures and videos of all storm-related damage (roof, siding, windows, furniture, etc.). Include wide shots and close-ups.
2. Item Descriptions – List damaged items with details: what they are, their condition before the storm, and estimated value.
3. Receipts/Proof of Purchase – Gather any receipts for major items or repairs. Bank statements work too.
4. Cause of Damage – Be specific (e.g., “Tree fell on roof during high winds” or “Flooding from heavy rain”).
5. Temporary Fixes – If you did any emergency repairs, document the work and keep the receipts.
6. Professional Assessments – If a contractor or adjuster looked at the damage, save their reports.
7. Insurance Policy Info – Know your policy number and coverage limits before you file the claim.
The more organized your records, the faster your claim can be processed. Stay safe, and feel free to share this to help others in our community.
