Still writing paper checks? Beware of check washing. ⚠️

Check washing is a growing form of fraud where criminals steal a check and use chemicals to erase the payee name and dollar amount. They rewrite the check, usually for a much larger amount. Here's how you can reduce the risk:
▪️Use a gel ink pen to write your checks.
▪️Take outgoing checks directly to the post office rather than leaving them in your mailbox at home or in a public drop box.
▪️Fill in blank spaces on your checks.
▪️Switch to digital payments when possible.

Frequent monitoring of your accounts can help you catch fraudulent activity quickly. Make sure to report any discrepancies to your bank immediately.

You probably know by now that “password1234” isn’t fooling anyone...but did you know that cybercrimnals are more commonly accessing accounts through data breaches, password reuse, and phishing scams—not by guessing passwords one attempt at a time?

Here are some tips to consider:

🔒 Use a different password for every account. Reusing passwords means that one leaked password could give someone access to multiple accounts.
🔒 Consider a passphrase instead of a password. A memorable phrase of unrelated words is often stronger and easier to remember than a short string of random characters.
🔒 Use a password manager. Password managers can generate (and store) strong, unique passwords so you don’t have to remember individual login credentials.
🔒 Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) when available. Even if someone obtains your password, MFA adds an extra layer of protection.
🔒 Avoid saving passwords in your browser. Although saving a password in your browser is convenient, it also means that someone can access your information if your device is compromised by malware or an unauthorized user.
