In North Carolina, speed limit signs aren’t rules… they’re more like friendly suggestions posted by someone who’s never been stuck behind a camper on I-40 in the mountains.

When you see “65,” what that actually means is:
Right lane: 70 (and somebody merging at 52 with absolute confidence)
Middle lane: 78 (the “I’m in a hurry but still polite” lane)
Left lane: whatever that black pickup riding your bumper decides is morally acceptable

You might be cruising at a peaceful 68, enjoying the trees and thinking life is good…
when suddenly a lifted truck appears behind you doing 90 like it just remembered Bojangles is about to close.

There’s an unspoken North Carolina rule:
“10 over is just getting started.”
15 over? You’re keeping up.
20 over? Congratulations… you’ve earned respect.

And then there’s that moment…
you’re already going fast… feeling confident…
and a car flies past you like it came straight off a Charlotte racetrack.
No signal. No hesitation. Just horsepower and bad decisions.

Out-of-state drivers are gripping the wheel like,
“WHY is everyone going this fast??”
Meanwhile locals are like,
“Honestly… this is pretty chill today.”

But here’s the twist…
The same people doing 85 on the highway
will merge onto it at 45 like they’re easing into a church parking lot.

And of course…
there’s always that one person.
Left lane.
Going 60.
Completely unbothered.

A whole line of cars behind them slowly losing faith in humanity…
but nobody honks. Nobody flashes lights.

Because in North Carolina…
we don’t make a scene.
We just pass on the right, speed up a little too much,
and act like that never happened.
