Labor Day was created to honor the American worker. For business owners, it means something more.

It's the reminder of every early morning, every hard decision, and every risk it took to build something worth protecting.

At TRS Family Office, we see the work behind the work โ€” the planning, the coordination, and the quiet discipline it takes to grow a business into a legacy. This Labor Day, we honor everyone whose hard work has built our businesses, strengthened our communities, supported our families, and created opportunities for others.

Wishing you a restful, well-earned holiday.

Here's something most business owners don't realize until it's too late: The biggest tax savings opportunities of the year expire on December 31st.

Not April 15th. Not when you file. December 31st.

By the time you sit down with your CPA in the spring, the window has already closed. They're looking backward โ€” tallying up what happened. But the real savings? Those happen when someone is looking forward.

That's the difference between tax compliance and tax planning.

Compliance is about last year. Planning is about this year โ€” and next year.

๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ In this video, Dale Montgomery breaks down the important distinction between tax deferral and tax free and what that can mean in your retirement. CLICK below to watch, and make sure to TURN UP the volume. ๐Ÿ”Š

At TRS Family Office, Q4 is when we roll up our sleeves with our clients. We review the full picture โ€” income, expenses, investments, business structure, and find every opportunity before the clock runs out.

Don't wait until spring to wish you'd planned in fall.

The fourth quarter will be here before you know it. And, this is the time of year when effective year-end tax mitigation beginsโ€”while there is still time to make decisions that influence this yearโ€™s outcome.

๐Ÿ“ Here are some pivotal questions worth answering before December 31:

โ†’ Is your business properly structured for its current revenue and profitability?

โ†’ Is your compensation and distribution strategy tax-efficient?

โ†’ Does your retirement strategy balance tax efficiency with access to capital?

โ†’ Are todayโ€™s tax deferrals creating a larger tax liability in retirement?

โ†’ Are there purchases, investments, or charitable contributions that should be completed before December 31?

โ†’ Are you purchasing equipment or reinvesting in your business because it advances your goals, or simply to lower your tax bill?

โ†’ Are your business and personal financial strategies working together?

That is where TRS Family Office shines. ๐ŸŒŸ

Fourth-quarter planning is your opportunity to mitigate taxes, protect liquidity, and make great decisions before the year closes.

We work with your CPA to ensure every advanced legal tax mitigation strategy available for your situation is explored and implemented.

When a surgeon named Marcus sat across from me, he was genuinely worried.

"I can handle any challenge in the OR," he said. Then he paused and looked down at his hands โ€” the same hands that generated over $1.5 million a year. "But if these hands stop workingโ€ฆ"

Marcus had conquered every professional challenge. But success itself had become his greatest risk. And the scariest part? His traditional advisors โ€” each working in their own silo โ€” hadn't flagged any of it.

That's the problem with blind spots. You don't know what you don't know.

Most business owners face risks in three categories:

๐Ÿ”น Operational (what could halt your business tomorrow?)
๐Ÿ”น Strategic (what's structurally outdated or missing?)
๐Ÿ”น Personal & Family (what would happen to your loved ones?)

The Virtual Family Office starts with a Client Situation Diagnostic that maps all three (among many other areas) โ€” before recommending anything. Because you can't protect what you can't see. ๐Ÿ“– https://loom.ly/5vVIbNI

In 2008, I lost everything.

Investment properties collapsed. The hobby farm went with them. Years of work dissolved in a matter of months.
What followed was a long struggle that forced me to question everything I thought I knew about money, success, and resilience.

But that struggle eventually led me somewhere I never expected.

In 2019, I discovered the Virtual Family Office model and immediately recognized it as the most powerful approach I had ever seen to helping business owners plan with greater confidence and clarity.

Hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve learned: The next level is never reached by chance. Itโ€™s built by design.

Itโ€™s built by moving from siloed advice to one coordinated, team-based strategy. From reacting to problems to proactively designing your future. From carrying the weight alone to having a trusted, coordinated team working alongside you.
This isnโ€™t simply about better planning. Itโ€™s about making better-informed decisions, protecting what youโ€™ve built, and creating a more intentional future for your business and your family.

If youโ€™re ready to stop managing disconnected advisors and start moving forward with a single coordinated plan, I wrote a book on exactly how to do it. ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://loom.ly/5vVIbNI

Here's something most business owners don't realize: Tax compliance and tax planning are two completely different things.

Compliance means filing returns accurately โ€” recording what already happened. That's important. But it's backward-looking.

Tax PLANNING is forward-looking. It's about designing strategies that legally keep more of your wealth โ€” turning taxes from an annual burden into a year-round advantage.

I worked with a physician named James who had been saving lives for 25 years but couldn't shake the feeling he hadn't saved enough of his own income. Every April, he wrote huge checks to the IRS and felt like he was falling further behind.

Once we looked at his FULL financial picture โ€” not just his tax return โ€” we found opportunities hiding in plain sight.

Six months later, James called and said, "For the first time, I feel like I'm not just working to pay taxesโ€ฆ I'm building something that will last."

Your CPA is essential. But if nobody's looking forward to you, you're leaving money on the table every single year.

Here's something I see all the time that surprises people: A business owner running a multi-million-dollar company with surprisingly little personal wealth outside it.

How does that happen?

When you're building something meaningful, every instinct says to reinvest. Pulling money out can feel like slowing growth or even betraying the mission.

So wealth stays tied up in the business. It's growing, sure โ€” but it's concentrated, illiquid, and exposed to every risk your company faces.

That's the Business Owner's Wealth Paradox.

It doesn't mean you should stop reinvesting. It means you need a strategy that strengthens your business AND builds personal wealth at the same time.

Because your business should be your greatest asset โ€” not your only one.

That's exactly what the Virtual Family Office is designed to do. I break it down in The VFO Advantage ๐Ÿ‘‡

In 1882, John D. Rockefeller โ€” America's first billionaire โ€” was drowning in disconnected advice.

He had the best advisors money could buy. But they were all working in isolation, each optimizing their own piece, and nobody was seeing the whole picture.

Sound familiar?

To overcome this challenge, Rockefeller did something revolutionary. He hired his advisors full-time, put them under one roof, and made them work together as a team. He called it the Family Office.

The result? His fortune grew to $1.4 billion by the time he passed in 1937.

For the next 140 years, this model stayed locked behind gates that only billionaires could afford. Families like the Waltons, the Gates, and Oprah Winfrey spend tens of millions of dollars a year running theirs.

But access to this framework has expanded with technological advances, making it more accessible to other high-net-worth earners.

Today, the Virtual Family Office brings Rockefeller-level planning to successful business owners at a fraction of the cost.

Same coordinated team approach.

Same unified strategy.

Without the billionaire price tag.

I wrote a book about how this works, and how it can work for you.

One of the first things I tell every business owner who sits down with me is, "I'm not here to sell you anything."

I mean it. Before we ever talk about insurance, investments, or any financial product, we run what's called a Client Situation Diagnostic. It looks at your whole picture โ€” business, personal, legal, tax โ€” and identifies where the real opportunities and risks are.

Because here's what I've learned: solutions that start with a sales pitch rarely solve the right problem.

I once sat with a business owner named Robert. He'd been fending off product pitches disguised as advice for years. The first thing he told me was, "Don't try to sell me life insurance."

So I said, "Deal. Let's start with your investments and tax strategy." And that's exactly what we did.

The right solution came later โ€” naturally โ€” because we understood the whole picture first.

That's the VFO difference. Strategy first. Always. ๐Ÿ“– https://trsfamilyoffice.com/vfo-advantage

After years of working with business owners, I've noticed something. The biggest barrier to the next level isn't usually strategy โ€”
It's belief.

Here are five I hear all the time:
โŒ "I can do it all myself."
โŒ "My advisors know what they're doing, so I'm covered."
โŒ "More experts just means more complexity."
โŒ "No one cares about my business like I do."
โŒ "I've gotten this far on my own โ€” why change now?"

These beliefs feel safe in the short run. But they quietly cap growth in the long run.

I'm not asking anyone to give up control. I'm helping them see how a coordinated team makes control easier โ€” not harder.

Wealth grows.
Stress drops.
And for the first time in years, you can focus on the big picture.
