The best reminder of why I became a financial advisor is when I get to see the impact of someone’s long term financial planning goal coming to fruition. As my career has gone on, I think the most rewarding feeling is helping someone retire. I have had many clients over the past few years enter retirement and there is so much to figure out; social security claiming, which accounts to draw money out of and why, health insurance, should they invest less aggressively and by how much, along with plenty of other questions that are unique to their family and health situations. Every retirement picture is different and takes careful analysis and preparation. This is one of the biggest career decisions for people since they entered the workforce.
When we go through the analysis, bring the answers to the health care questions, social security, how we can create the monthly income needed and give clarity to the abstract questions they have about their personal situations, nothing beats the smile that always appears. I love when the conversation turns from worry and confusion to clarity and talking about dreams. It is so fun to hear about what they are going to do with their children and grandchildren, the charities they support, and the places they want to travel. Most of all, it is so energizing to see the happiness they have when they can think about work as a choice and not a necessity after all of these years.
When I get into the office in the morning and think about why I am here, I just think of these meetings and the clients that trust us with their retirement plans.
