Public Service Notice: What to Do After a Storm
• Do not sign any contracts immediately after the storm.
• Choose local roofing companies whenever possible.
• Ask to see the required city permit before any work begins
• State law prohibits contractors from waiving your deductible.
• Have a reputable roofer inspect your roof for damage. Your neighbor’s damage does not necessarily mean your roof was damaged as well. Also, if you file a claim, it may still appear on your record even if you later withdraw it or the damage falls below your deductible.
Before You File
• Contact your insurance agent if you have questions about your coverage or next steps.
• Unless your home has leaks or significant damage, consider waiting until storm season ends before filing a claim.
• Remember that each claim is subject to a separate deductible. For example, if you file a claim, an adjuster inspects it, and another storm occurs that same day, a new deductible may apply.
