Even in retirement - Marie is out and about helping and doing good wherever she can!
Volunteer Hall of Fame Spotlight: Marie Schmitt
While the pronunciation of "Steinauer" has been much contested over the years, what’s never up for debate is Marie’s level of compassion—reflected in nearly 20 years of service spearheading the food distribution efforts taking place there.
Marie and her trusted group of volunteers—made up by friends and dedicated farmers who take time away from tending their crops to help out—work together to make sure nutritious food gets into the hands of our Pawnee County neighbors who need it.
They run the drive-thru distribution outside of K of C Hall every month with Marie at the helm, channeling the organizational and people skills she’s honed through years of helping run the Convent House Bed and Breakfast and volunteering as secretary at the church.
We are endlessly grateful for the care Marie shows to all the folks that come by seeking aid—and if you’re wondering where she falls in the 'steen-er' vs 'stein-our' debate, Marie defers to the folks in town who still carry the Steinauer name to have the final say.
