Joel was a client of mine back in the 1990's before he expanded and I didn't have the right insurance carrier to accommodate him. (I do now Joel Salatin!😎) Agree or not, Joel's perspective is ALWAYS worth hearing. This conversation gives an excellent summary of what's going on currently in cattle markets. Worth a listen!

It seems that the more our culture has become disconnected from the soil of our agricultural roots, the coarser we have become. But we all eventually return.

Looking forward to representing LD&B Insurance and Financial Services as a panelist at the 2026 Virginia Farm-to-Table Conference about “Resilience and the convergence of Food System Crises.” The panel is currently scheduled for the first day of the conference Tuesday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Community College’s Plecker Workforce Development Center.

The aim of the panel will be to present perspectives on resilience and how we support farmers and farm businesses through times of uncertainty or when there is the convergence multiple stressors in the food system (i.e., trade, weather, pests, biosecurity risks, labor shortages, market disruptions, etc.). As part of the farm and food system network, First Bank and Trust, LD & B Insurance and Financial Services, Virginia Foundation for Agricultural Innovation and Rural Sustainability (VA FAIRS), and Red Tomato’s EcoCertified will discuss unique ways and insights for handling risks and addressing resilience to assist farmers and food businesses.
