Why you need Flood Insurance even though you don't live in a "Flood Zone"
Here are a few recent statistics regarding flood disasters in the U.S.:
• 98 percent of counties in the U.S. have experienced a flood event.
• 81 percent of the properties damaged during Hurricane Harvey outside of high-risk flood areas did not have flood insurance.
• The maximum amount of FEMA assistance given to flood survivors after a presidentially declared disaster is $34,000.
• In Harris County, Texas, the average flood insurance claim was $113,000, while the average FEMA individual grant was $4,200.
• Hurricane Harvey dumped 19 trillion gallons of rain over the state of Texas, causing $125 billion in damages.
