Our sweet senior man Chewy is still waiting to find a home to call his own. For those of you that are new to our page - Chewy came to the rescue after being found by my daughter running down the road with another dog Gemma on a hot day, they could hardly breathe, they were filthy , covered in fleas and got right in the car. She of course calls me and we take them to our vets office and we posted (because we have to by law) for their owner. So 4 days in I get a message that they belong to the guy that messaged me sister and she will be getting in touch with me. And she did but it took her 4 days to realize that these dogs were missing and then wanted to know " how much it would cost to kill them (euthanize them)" so needless to say they both became part of the rescue. They were both heartworm positive, Chewy had a deformed front leg where it had been broken and the previous owners did nothing for it. He gets along fine on that leg now. They both went through their heartworm treatment and a couple months after Gemma crashed and was rushed to the emergency clinic - she had thrown a clot and sadly we lost her. I remember sitting outside sobbing and just screaming because it was so unfair - she was the sweetest girl and they were finally both safe and then that happened - there was nothing we could have done to prevent but sometimes there are certain losses that just never leave you and hers is one for me. Chewy was very very bonded with Gemma and we did not know honestly if he would make it without her and the first couple of weeks were very hard. He would not eat, he would lay there and shake and cry. I can remember laying with him one night, my tears hitting his face promising him it was going to be okay - he was going to be okay, I just needed him to realize that. In time he learned that he was going to be okay. He is a quiet boy estimated to be about 9 years old. He is a total love and so deserves a family to call his own. Since he has been up for adoption there has not been one inquiry about this sweet boy and that is heartbreaking to me. Yes he is a senior but he has so much love to give. If you are interested in learning more about Chewy please go to our website www.boxerbuttsandothermutts.org and click on adoptable dogs and check out Chewy's adoption profile. Senior dogs rock and he is a rockstar for sure
