My wife and I moved into a new home about four months ago.

It’s a significant upgrade from the 1200-square-foot, two-bedroom home where we started our family. We now have a lounge for game nights with friends, a swing covered by our floating deck that Haven loves, and plenty of rooms to grow into over the years ahead.

But my favorite feature in the entire house isn’t any of those things.

It’s the painting hanging above our fireplace.

At first glance, it looks like a quiet landscape covered in morning fog.

Look a little closer, though, and you’ll notice a shepherd and a lone sheep separated from the flock in the foreground.

Every time I see it, I’m reminded of Luke 15:4:

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?”

There have been more seasons in my life than I’d care to admit that I’ve been that sheep.

And every time, Jesus has been the One who pursued me, found me, and brought me back.

That’s why this painting has become my favorite thing in our home.
