Taxes in retirement can sneak up on people. And usually, by the time it happens, it's too late to do much about it.

That's not something we want our clients to deal with, so we spend a lot of time looking at Roth conversions with them.

A Roth conversion just means moving some money now so it grows tax-free and you can pull from it later without owing anything on it.

We were sitting down with a client recently to talk through this year's conversion, and it had us looking back at what we did for her last year.

We'd timed it around the extra tax discounts seniors get, and because of that, she didn't owe a dime in taxes on it.

That's income she'll get to use later without the IRS taking a piece of it.

We love finding wins like this for our clients. It’s the little decisions, made at the right time, that make a big difference down the road.

Chipping away at your mortgage doesn't feel like much day-to-day, but sometimes those small payments add up to something bigger than you'd expect.

Last year, during one client's annual planning meeting, we talked about making extra payments toward his mortgage. It wasn’t going to be anything dramatic, just a little more each month, when he could.

By the end of the year, his balance had dropped by $20,000 in just twelve months!

That's exciting enough on its own, but what really stuck with us was that at that pace, his home will be paid off in three years, which is years ahead of where he originally expected to be.

Once his mortgage is paid off, he’ll be able to redirect those dollars into retirement savings and increase his odds of retiring early (a goal he shared with us when we first started working together).

We love looking at the whole picture with our clients because one decision in one part of your finances can cause a ripple effect for everything else.

For this client, it meant moving his retirement date up from 65 to 60. That’s five extra years to spend however he wants, with his home fully paid for and one less thing to think about.

This just goes to show, small moves now can change the whole timeline later.

ARK is turning 5 this week. Can you believe it?!

This has absolutely been our best year yet.

That's all because of you, our clients. You inspire us to do good work and show up as our best selves every single day. Not many people get to say they work with a team they love and clients who feel like family, but we do. 🫶

We're proud that for five years we've stuck to our original plan, which was to help women and couples feel organized and supported with their finances, even when life throws a curveball or two.

We started ARK because we wanted more freedom, both personally and professionally. Owning our time has always mattered to us, especially when it comes to being there for our children, no matter how big or small.

We also love being able to just be ourselves by working and living in a way that matches what we care about.

Words cannot express how grateful we are for your continued trust and encouragement. To every client, colleague, community member, friend, and partner, we want to say thank you for your support. 🙏

Serving our clients well has always mattered to us, and none of this would have happened without you.

Helping our clients feel taken care of means a lot to us.

We love being part of our clients' celebrations, no matter how big or how small, so getting notes like this from them is one of our favorite parts of the job.

We sent our client Karen a few goodies for her birthday, and she sent this thank you card back. It made our whole week.

This is exactly why we show up for our clients the way we do.

Lisa's kids are starting to look at colleges, and that has meant a lot of questions about what they're interested in. So, the whole family took an Enneagram test just to see what would come back.

She was pretty amazed at how accurate each of their test results were.

Lisa's a Type 1, sometimes called The Reformer or The Perfectionist. Type 1s are usually ethical, organized, and good planners. They hold themselves to a high bar and notice the things other people often miss while solving problems everyone else would rather ignore.

If you know Lisa, none of that is a surprise, and it’s why clients trust her to keep things on track.

If your family hasn't tried it, take fifteen minutes and do it together. It helped Lisa's kids start narrowing down what they might want to do with their lives, and it's just as useful for adults thinking about switching careers and not sure where to start.

Today marks 13 years since Lisa's mom left us too soon.

At just 63, she lost a two-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Even as her body grew weaker, her love for life and for the family and friends around her never did.

Lisa still feels so grateful for the time she had with her mom, the woman who shaped her work ethic, her love for family, and her ability to see the good in people.

As we start preparing for the holiday season (it’ll be here before you know it), we want to encourage you to remember to pause, take a deep breath, and notice the people in your life.

Hug the ones you love. Keep finding joy, the way Lisa's mom always did. We think that's the best way to honor her. 🤍

Twenty-one years ago, we said "I do."
A few weeks ago, we found ourselves aboard the Disney Wish with our three kids, surrounded by all the magic, wonder, and reminders that dreams really can come true.
It got me thinking...
The truth is, a great marriage isn't built on wishing. It's built on choosing.
Choosing each other on the easy days and the hard ones.
Choosing grace over keeping score.
Choosing laughter when life gets messy.
Choosing forgiveness when it's deserved... and sometimes even when it isn't.
Choosing to keep growing together, even as life changes around you.
Twenty-one years have brought us three amazing kids, countless memories, a few plot twists we never saw coming, plenty of laughter, and enough inside jokes to fill a lifetime.
Has every day felt magical? Definitely not.
But every year has been worth it.
Happy 21st Anniversary to my favorite adventure partner. Thank you for continuing to choose "us." Here's to many more years of making dreams come true—one ordinary, beautiful day at a time.

One of the best parts of this job is watching what happens once a client finally has a plan in place.

The question changes.
Instead of "what should we do?" it becomes "when do we want to do it?"

They stop worrying about forgetting something important, or not knowing what they don't even know to ask.

They have a plan built around their goals, and someone experienced walking through it with them. We prune back what isn't working and nurture what is, so things keep growing in the right direction as life changes.

They're also not sitting there wondering if they're making the right choices all on their own.
